The local library did have a bit more information on these brothers. John E. Geiger was born December 13, 1841 in Dodge County Wisconsin. He mustered into the Army on October 20, 1861 in Milwaukee. I checked my data base and didn't find him listed, hopefully you have better luck. I also have the Geiger name in my data base of genealogy research and am connected to Jacob Kyger/Geiger of Shenandoah and Augusta Counties in VA. The Larkspur Historical society has this information on their site at : http://www.larkspurhistoricalsociety.com/Index.html Under the heading Spring Valley Timeline by Years; 1864 Jacob and John Geiger come through the area accompanying a group of Confederate prisoners enroute to Bent's Fort. Jacob Geiger was wounded and given a Civil War grant of land in Spring Valley. (The site goes on to say this in another area) A General store was built just west of the school house and run by Jacob Geiger. They both loved the area and later each proved up a homestead in 1879. The Geiger Family still ranches the original homestead being the 4th generation on the ranch. The store was burned in 1886 when the stage driver came down with Smallpox and had slept in the backroom of the store. I would love to connect with anyone who has more information on these Geiger men and exchange information. What family are these two connected two? Spring Valley is in Southern Douglas County, which is the county in-between Denver and Colorado Springs.
