    1. [GEIGER] Geigers & Murffs
    2. Thanks to all for the replies on the SC land deeds & Murffs. I was able to find a few of these in the back of some old Leonardo Andrea information I found regarding the Murffs. Andrea evidently included a few of these with the Murff information for the same reason I was looking for them. Warren, regarding Herman Geiger being married to Margaretha instead of Elizabeth, I found in the Geiger List Archives from 1999 the following : >From "Abstracts of the Wills of the State of South Carolina, 1740-1760", by Caroline T. Moore, p. 138: "HERMAN GEIGER, Saxegotha Township, planter. Wife: Elizabeth, plantation where I now live during her widowhood. Sons: eldest John Conrad, said plantation; Jacob, 2 tracts on south side Santee River; Herman, land on south side Broad River, land purchased of Adam SKEIKIL; youngest John, land on north side Broad River purchased of Michael POMER, land purchased of Peter SMITH. Daus: [not named]. Mentions: "I desire that Stephen CREEL be in no manner employed about or have concern with my books papers or anything Relating to or Concerning any of my affairs whatsoever." Exors: wife; son John Conrad; brother-in-law John GOLLMAN; Mr. Benjamin SMITH; Mr. Henry LAWRENCE. Wit: Hans Jacob REMMSFRUGER, Frederick HOUX, John REMINGTON. D: 20 Oct 1751. P: 6 Sept. 1751 (sic). R: nd. p. 450. [Part of will in original book destroyed]." End of will. At least when Herman died, he had a wife named Elizabeth. I guess Margaretha could be a middle name or an earlier wife....if either. Does anyone know if this Herman Geiger (Sr.) of the will above was the son of Hans Jacob Geiger (b. 1679) and Margareta Ferrin who came to the Carolinas in 1737 and was a former cantonial governor in Switzerland?? Skip, you have Lavina Kaigler as the wife of Herman Jr., which I’ve seen too, but recently I saw another name….Margaret Theiler as his wife. Do you know anything about a second wife or what the deal is here? I had only one child for John Randolph and Elizabeth—thanks for the others. Elizabeth’s father, John Murff who died at Cowpens, is suspected to be the brother of my ancestor, Jacob Murff. Jacob had a son named Randolph, which seems to tie the knot a little tighter there on the Murff/Geiger connection to me. I also wonder if my Jacob didn’t marry a Geiger girl. I am sending in a separate e-mail to the List the Geiger SC land deeds I found (abstracts). Thanks for any help on the above. Jan Murff Melton
