    1. [GEIGER] Geigers & Murffs
    2. Hi, Warren, I have two lines of Smiths out of South Carolina. One starts with Moses Smith of Abbeville, b. 1756, md. Ann Cullom. Children: Phoebe (1785), Jane (1787), William (1790), Joseph (1792), George (1794), Robert (1796), Benjamin (1799), Samuel (1802), Ebenezer (1804), Nancy (1806). My line goes through William for whom I have only one son so far, Andrew Alfred Monroe Smith, b. 1821. Four of William's siblings moved to Indiana. The rest stayed in SC as far as I know now. Alfred married Helena Murff where they were both living in Laurens County, SC. I do know that the Murffs were originally in the upper Orangeburg/Lexington area before moving northerly to Newberry Co. then to Laurens Co. Alfred and Helena moved their family to Monroe Co., MS with a couple of Helena's brothers (don't know about Alfred's) and their families around 1857. One of Alfred & Helena's daughters married the son of one of Helena's brothers, Waldemar in MS. So I'm connected twice to the Murffs and these Smiths. The other Smith line has been very difficult. Benjamin Franklin Smith was born in SC about 1832. I found him next door to Monroe County, MS in Lamar County, AL. His daughter Rebecca married the above Waldemar's grandson, Henry Clay Murff. I don't believe Ben's line is connected to the above Smiths at this point. Ben married Ann Cribbs, who was born in MS, and so far I haven't been able to trace these folks back any further??.Yet! Has anything every been found out about the descendants of the other sons of Hans Jacob Geiger Sr.--- Hans Heinrich, Wyhert and Hans Jacob Jr.? I do see where Hans Jacob Jr. built a house in the general vicinity of Saxe Gotha. Any word on the others? The Murffs had no Randolphs that I've ever seen listed before my ancestor Randolph Murff, yet I do see a Randolph in the Geiger clan. I'm sure you see the direction of my thoughts here. Just a hunch, but I may as well check it out. The Swiss were really big on naming the kids after the elders, as I'm sure you know. But then I've never seen a Waldemar before mine either, come to think of it. I have names of some of the children of William Smith's siblings above if you'd like to have them, or if you give me a name I'll be glad to look for it. Thanks for your help on the Geigers, Warren. In order of birth, they were: Herman (1707), Elsbetha (1709), Anna Cathrina (1711), Hs. Heinrich (1713), Maria Barbara (1715), Esther (b/d 1717 SWT), WYBEHRT (female-b. 1718), Hs. Jacob (1720), Johannes (b.1722-d.1725 SWT), and Margretha (1724). This is from the church records in SWT (which DO call him former Cantonal Governor, by the way). Esther and Johannes died young, but it is assumed all the rest came to America with their parents, as no further records exist in SWT. I have only seen Wybehrt GEIGER mentioned once in SC records and there she was called a son and her name was misspelled!! If she didn't just quietly die, I suspect she married young and disappeared into some other family. I've also wondered if she went by a pet name we haven't noticed. Wish we could find her - and her four sisters!! I believe Hs. Heinrich might be the Henry or Harry GEIGER we see in the SC records. Hs. Jacob had a cousin of the same name, two years older and son of Abraham GEIGER. The South Carolina records could apply to either of them. The other Hs. Jacob GEIGER (1718) was a much older brother of my Hs. Ulrich GEIGER (1730). Ulrich removed to GA in 1766, but records don't show if his brother did. Anne C. in FL
