Possibly of interest to some Geiger listers is the death of Dr. Francis Jones Smiley in Chattanooga, TN on 5/27/2001. He was the son of Annie Louise Baggs Smiley Ramsey and Reamer Edward Smiley, Sr. of Savannah, GA. His grandmother was Sarah Melissa Geiger Baggs, daughter of Winfield Wickliff Geiger of Bryan County, GA (Groveland and Pembroke). Dr. Smiley was an obstetrician and gynecologist in the Chattanooga area for many years. he received his bachelor's degree in chemistry and master's degree in physiology from the University of Georgia, the latter in 1952. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of GA in 1956. His internship and residency were served at the University of Tennessee John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, TN. Dr. Smiley is survived by his wife, Monica, and daughters, Judy Smiley, Tessa McClelland, and Laura Caron. Funeral services were held on 5/28/01 in Chattanooga, and burial will be in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA. Nancy Geiger Ford
