Recently, I was sent a column called "Sunday Punch", written by John CARTER. It is dated 2 May 1999 and MAY have come from the New Smyrna Beach, Florida, paper. Mr. Carter writes about growing up in Jacksonville, Florida, with his grandparents. This is what prompted my cousin to send it to me: His grandfather was "a Georgia Cracker named Henry David CARTER" and his grandmother was Lillian Catherine GEIGER. She was born in Jacksonville in 1901 to "a father, a politically powerful judge named Jack GEIGER, who himself was born in Hilliard, up near the Georgia line." I can't place this family, but maybe someone else can. Anne C.
