    1. [GEIGER] Weberites--JOHN GEIGER
    2. Connell
    3. Interesting site, Joan ... but I can't agree with her statement that the infamous "John GEIGER" - whom no one else has been able to identify - is "Saxe Gotha Neighbor John Jacob GEIGER". There were at least three of that name in the area - the old Governor, his son and his nephew - and all would likely have been called "Jacob", not "John". It is difficult to sort them out, but they shouldn't be lumped together as one man and called murderer! And there were several John GEIGERs. The Weberite scenario played out in 1761. The records show that in 1737, former Cantonal Gov. Hans Jacob GYGER (b. 1679) and his brother Abraham GYGER (b. 1687) brought their families to SC from SWT, becoming GEIGER. Hs. Jacob had sons Herman (b. 1707), Hs. Heinrich (b. 1713 - perhaps the "Henry" in records), and Hs. Jacob (b. 1720). Abraham had sons Hs. Jacob (b. 1718), Johannes [John] (b. 1721) and Hs. Ulrich (b. 1730). Gov. Hs. Jacob's oldest son Herman had sons John Conrad (b. SWT), Jacob (prob. b. SWT), Herman (b. 1738, SC) and John (b. 1748, SC). But we don't know every child the other cousins might have produced and there are other male names we can't identify. I assume most of the young cousins grew up and married in SC. Abraham's son, Johannes, prob. is one of the "John GEIGERs" found in SC records. In 1766, his younger brother Hans Ulrich (b. 1730) applied for permission to remove his family (wife, three ch. and one slave) to GA "for the purpose of farming". Did Johannes/John go with them? When Herman's son John Conrad GEIGER died in 1772 in SC, his widow Barbara MURFF and his brother John GEIGER were co-executors. Percy GEIGER and the Herman GEIGER Memorial both show brother John (1748-1817) married to Ann MURFF [m. 1767] and with five children. Another source said this John (no dates given) married Emily MURFF and that their only child was Emily GEIGER, the Rev. War heroine (b. ca. 1762). This is not an easy family to figure out!
