I've never seen the surname Zerricus before... i'm wondering if the Zurick Gieger b. 1854 got his name from there? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harriet Imrey" <himrey@ntelos.net> To: <GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 10, 2004 8:32 AM Subject: Re: [GEIGER] Geiger around Edgefield S.C. > They married at some point after Dec 1751 (when Herman Geiger's will was > probated) and before Aug 1752. Zerricus isn't an actual name, just one of the many ways that English-speaking clerks in SC chose to interpret the surname of a man who signed himself as "Johannes Serecouse." His wife Verena (nicknamed Vronegg) wound up in a deed as "Chronica Zurkus", making it a bit difficult to follow her land around. If I saw a document filed under the Christian-name Zurick, I'd suspect that it had started out as Zurcher (as in, "the guy from Zürich"), but it might possibly be yet another clerk-transcription of George (Jorg, Jurg, Jerig, alas-poor-Yorick, etc.). ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beverly Burton" <bzb@houston.rr.com> To: <GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 11, 2004 9:50 AM Subject: Re: [GEIGER] Geiger around Edgefield S.C. They married at some point after Dec 1751 (when Herman Geiger's will was probated) and before Aug 1752. SC Deed Book S-5, 23-26, 17 & 18 Apr 1774, cites a purchase from John Zerricus (Seracous, Circus, etc.) dated 24 & 25 Aug 1752 by "John Gallman and Elizabeth his wife, executors of Herman Geiger decd in behalf of John Conrad Geiger."
