Curiously, there were NO families spelled Geiger or Gieger in MS during the 1860 census. All were spelled Gigger or Giger. And there were others in MS that were not part of Jesse's family. There was a music teacher, Emilie Gigger, born in Hamburg, who was a music teacher. There was a Henry Giger in Clarke Co, AL (right across the MS line) who was born in 1835 GA. He was quite a large slave holder. In 1870 there was a John and a Moses Gigger (black) living in Madison Co, MS and a Dick Gieger (black) (the only person in MS who spelled his name GIEger during the 1870 census) in Kemper Co. Also, did y'all know there is/was a town named GIEger in Sumter Co, AL? ----- Original Message ----- From: <Giegerg@hotmail.com> To: <GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 19, 2004 2:14 PM Subject: [GEIGER] Re: Gieger/Rowell > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: GIEGER, Martin > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JOY.2ACEB/424.492.492 > > Message Board Post: > > All of the caucasian Gieger family in So.MS descend from Jessie & Tobitha (Martin) Gieger who migrated from Bulloch County GA in 1815, settling in Covington County. > > They had four sons and four daughters, three of which married sons of Shadrach Nelson West of Wayne County.
