Dr. Smiley, a native of Savannah, GA, received his B.S. degree in chemistry in 1950 and his master's degree in physiology in 1952 from the Univ. of GA. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of GA in 1956. Dr. Smiley was the son of Annie Louise Baggs Ramsey and Reamer Edward Smiley, Sr.. He was the grandson of Sarah Melissa Geiger Baggs and William H. Baggs. Sarah Melissa Geiger was the daughter of Winfield Wickliff Geiger of Bryan County, GA. Surviving Dr. Smiley is his wife Monica and daughters Judy Smiley, Tessa McClelland and Laura Caron, 4 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Burial was in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA.
