    2. There is also a John Geiger who arrived for the first time in 1752 aboard the Caladonia. ----- Original Message ----- From: "susan wilson" <hrw3@worldnet.att.net> To: <GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 29, 2004 12:02 PM Subject: Re: [GEIGER] SC grants to GA Geigers? > There is a listing for Philip in the 1830 Ga. census ...for Darien, McIntosh > County. 1. Re: [GEIGER] Ship Caledonia, Sep 1752, Charleston SC
    2. Harriet Imrey
    3. Maybe! The name is given as "Johann's Keyger" (by genealogist Brent Holcomb from the British copy of his land petition) and as "Johann's Keyzer" (by genealogist Theresa Hicks from the SC copy of his petition). The petition did not result in a plat or a grant under either name (or their spelling-variants), and there are no further SC records relating to him or to his wife. The implication is that he died shortly after arrival. The large fleet of Palatine immigrants that arrived in Charlestown from Sep 1752 to Jan 1753 included other Keyzers who survived, and settled in the Dutch Fork section of Lexington Co SC. They used the spellings Kyser/Kyzer during the 19th century. There are--of course--numerous colonial SC records about various John Geigers, but each of those can be traced to the family of the 1737 Swiss immigrants. None to a descendant of a German John Keyger/Keyzer who arrived in SC on the Caledonia in 1752, many to descendants of the John Ulrich Keyser who arrived with the same fleet. ----- Original Message ----- From: <bzb@houston.rr.com> To: <GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 31, 2004 3:07 PM Subject: Re: [GEIGER] SC grants to GA Geigers? > There is also a John Geiger who arrived for the first time in 1752 aboard > the Caladonia.
