Thanks, Harriet. I have three granddaughters and another on the way, and I will certainly see that these young ladies have a copy of this book. Did you obtain yours from ebay? Nancy Geiger Ford ----- Original Message ----- From: Harriet Imrey To: GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com Sent: 2/29/2004 9:47:13 PM Subject: [GEIGER] For Emily Geiger fans South Carolina Rev War heroine Emily Geiger is included in a new children's book, "In Disguise! Stories of Real Women Spies" by Ryan Ann Hunter, targeted to the age 9-12 reading audience. If you're an Emily-fan (as I am) and also are gift-shopping for a young Geiger lady (as I am not), take a look at the description at one of the online book sites. It's officially not in print until April, but I have my copy already. The Emily section is brief (2 pages), but the book covers five centuries of renowned female spies. It's nice that our cousin-Emily is among them. She is an exceedingly-distant collateral connection of mine, but we take our heroines wherever we can find them! Curiously, there were NO families spelled Geiger or Gieger in MS during the 1860 census. All were spelled Gigger or Giger. And there were others in MS that were not part of Jesse's family. There was a music teacher, Emilie Gigger, born in Hamburg, who was a music teacher. There was a Henry Giger in Clarke Co, AL (right across the MS line) who was born in 1835 GA. He was quite a large slave holder. In 1870 there was a John and a Moses Gigger (black) living in Madison Co, MS and a Dick Gieger (black) (the only person in MS who spelled his name GIEger during the 1870 census) in Kemper Co. Also, did y'all know there is/was a town named GIEger in Sumter Co, AL? ----- Original Message ----- From: <Giegerg@hotmail.com> To: <GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 19, 2004 2:14 PM Subject: [GEIGER] Re: Gieger/Rowell > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: GIEGER, Martin > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JOY.2ACEB/424.492.492 > > Message Board Post: > > All of the caucasian Gieger family in So.MS descend from Jessie & Tobitha (Martin) Gieger who migrated from Bulloch County GA in 1815, settling in Covington County. > > They had four sons and four daughters, three of which married sons of Shadrach Nelson West of Wayne County. Nancy....... Where is the Rootsweb forum to post? I tried to access using the old links to the bible records and could not gain access... My brain must be fried...how to do get back in? Thanks , Susan
Hi I'm Lovey Gieger I have just read you letter passed on by Jerry. I must agree with you on his records I will double check with him with all the information I collect. I recieved 5 generation from him that was so mind boggling that it will take a few days to cross check mine. I hope I am not to far off. Nice to chat with people who know these old folks.
Thanks Gerry... Never type anything on the way out of the door particularly when you are traveling towards a place like South Carolina....like a brain blip.... Nancy also pointed out the goof. Told her I was just making up genealogy info to spice things up a bit! Thanks for mailing that other Geiger info back to me. I had indeed lost it with everything else. I have been trying to get a bunch of info on many lines back into the computer and had not gotten to the Geiger info yet to see what was missing. Know I missed some info on the Lane/Geiger lines...but most I had printed out to my files so I didn't loose all of it. But thanks again for the rest of the info. It is unfortunate that you had more complete and verifiably accurate info and they choose to take the old info. Some of these bad records will never get corrected I am afraid...so few people are verifying sources when they can. I went to Mississippit this summer and tried to find info in Simpson County. NO luck...not in town long enough. Did see the "town" of Westville where Cornelius was...as well as Lewis. Also in Hattiesburg where the Geiger Printing company stands.... Wish I had more time to investigate the graves around there. Still cannot find when and where Cornelius died. Oh well, one day maybe. Glad I caught your note to Frankie or I would have never seen the original message. That was the only child I could not find...what a break!!! Hope all is well with you..........glad to hear from you to be sure! Susan
Page 64 of the "Ebenezer Record Book, 1754-1781" by Jones & Exley says: "Cornelius, son of _____ Geiger in Ogeechee and wife, was born Feb 1, 1774, and Baptized July 18, 1774. Sponsors were Mr. Rister and his wife." This is undoubtedly Cornelius, son of Ulrich and Apollonia, because they were living in 'Ogeechee' next door to Frederich Rester and wife Maria Margaretha, who moved to GA at the same time as Ulrich. His adjacent Land Grant was issued concurrently with Ulrich in 1767. >From: "James Ford" <jlfchat@earthlink.net> >Reply-To: jlfchat@earthlink.net >To: GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: RE: [GEIGER] Re: Gieger/Rowell >Date: Sat, 21 Feb 2004 8:9:41 -0500 > > >Susan, > >These people are in my line also. Susan, These people are in my line also. I only have one son listed for Lewis Geiger and Elizabeth Bush who is Hugh A. Geiger. Would you please post Lewis's children to rootsweb, and do you have something telling you that Cornelius was born in SC?
