    3. The Jacob GEIGER (b. ca. 1797) of Nassau Co., FL, who married Marjory SIMMONS, was son of Felix GEIGER and Mary MARTIN. My records show their first child as Henry J. GEIGER (b. 23 Dec 1825) who married Martha Elizabeth GEIGER , his 2nd cousin and dau. of Samuel GEIGER (1796) and 1st wife Sarah TILLMAN. I also have a Jacob GEIGER (b. ca. 1797), son of Cornelius GEIGER (b. 1774, d. Marion Co., FL; son of Hs. Ulrich) and Rebecca BENNETT, but no information on him. The two Jacobs have always been a sticky problem. The archives should have a lot on this. And some more census searching would help. As to Jacob and James, this is from Deb Callicott: "Methodist Preachers in Georgia, 1783-1900, compiled by Harold Lawrence, Member, North Georgia Conference, The United Methodist Church, Library of Congress Cataloging No. 84-71879. Published 1984. Author and editor: Harold Lawrence, 1549 Prospect Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30245. "GEIGER, Jacob S. (3-25-1824 - 2-2-1896) (MECS) Born Jasper Co., Georgia; Died Geneva, Florida; married 9-9-1847, Elizabeth P. BENFORD. (L) N/S GA. Conference; 1862 Deacon; 1872 Elder. "GEIGER, James M. (MECS) (L) N. GA. Conference; 1888 Deacon (E)" We believe them to be sons, James and Jacob, of Harmon Horlbeck GEIGER and Ruby Lavinia KAIGLER. Harmon was born 29 Sep 1797, SC, and died 1868, Jasper Co., GA. James William GEIGER, Sr., who supposedly was scalped after the 1850 census is found on 1860 with 1st wife and on 1870 with 2nd wife - all Nassau Co., FL. He died 14 Oct 1874. 3. John: I wasn't speaking expressly of the Geiger's...but a lot of South Carolinians tried to go to FL because it was still a Spanish possession, and others left for the Islands in the Caribbean to avoid being drawn into the conflict...in short, they had a comfortable life under the Brits and were thankful for the opportunity that had been given to them to make a new life for themselves and their families...they also feared that if the British soldiers left, they would be more vulnerable to Indian depredations, so they just got on boats and sailed for Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Santa Domingo, and the other smaller islands like Nevis where Alexander Hamilton was born, and St. Christopher... But those who stayed did not take a very kind attitude to those who left, and confiscated their lands and possessions; if they returned, they had to PROVE their allegiance; Unlike the 'yellowbellies' who ran to Canada during the Vietnam conflict. Sorry if I step on anyone's toes...but I know that kind in WA state who came back after the 'amnesty' but settled in Bellingham, just inside the border, so they could run back across, if the Government changed its mind...Problem is, they are now the Professors in those Universities who foment anti-patriotism...I did not support Amnesty then, and I don't support it now... >From: "Pat Geiger" <jgeiger@sc.rr.com> >Reply-To: GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com >To: GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [GEIGER] James Geiger >Date: Mon, 8 Mar 2004 17:30:51 -0500 > >Gerald- >In reference to note below did they go to Burmuda or could they have gone >to >Canada, like in the 1960's? 2. Scalped? Oh sure, leave it to a man to say that... it was probably just baldness. No, seriously, he was still in Nassau Co. during the 1870 census. So if he was scalped, he would have been very old and it wouldn't have been much of a trophy. :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gerald Gieger" <giegerg@hotmail.com> To: <GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 08, 2004 2:13 PM Subject: Re: [GEIGER] James Geiger > The Jacob who was living in Nassau County is likely Cornelius' son who > married Marjory Simmons ca1845...Their son Henry J. 3. Several years ago, a lady contacted me about a James Samuel Geiger who was supposed to be her progenitor, but he was not of the same age as mine. I have changed hard-drives since then, and can't recall her name, but seems like she was in the Nassau County FL area. The name Martha Harris seems familiar also, but it might be due to some other connection... The Shuman Family Book by Earlene Shuman Geiger, includes Abraham and Mercy's son James (b1808), but lists no info. Chubb Geiger's book says he was scalped by Indians. Since Glynn County is South of Bryan County and along the route to FL, it is possible that he married during migration to FL, to join his older brothers and cousins...There are many Geiger descendants in the St Mary's Bend area of GA and FL...Perhaps some of them will be able to identify this James... >From: <bzb@houston.rr.com> >Reply-To: GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com >To: GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [GEIGER] James Geiger >Date: Sat, 6 Mar 2004 19:07:50 -0600 > >James Geiger married Martha Harris on 11/30/1837 in Glynn Co., GA. 1. Re: [GEIGER] James Geiger
    2. Hey, Gerry, I just saw something interesting: there's a J. Geiger living in Baldwin Co, GA in 1860. He was born in 1834 Bermuda. I wonder if that's where we can find some of the clan who has escaped detection all these years. I found that James GIEger (b. 1808 GA) who married Martha Harris: He was living in Nassau Co, FL in 1860. Jacob GIEger (b. 1797 GA) was also living in that county. I have this Jacob as the son of Cornelius so I'm guessing that James might be a brother. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gerald Gieger" <giegerg@hotmail.com> To: <GEIGER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 08, 2004 10:14 AM Subject: RE: [GEIGER] James Geiger > Several years ago, a lady contacted me about a James Samuel Geiger who was > supposed to be her progenitor, but he was not of the same age as mine.
