In a message dated 98-07-28 01:29:41 EDT, you write: > When was the will actually written? Is there a date there, rather > than the date of execution of the will? Helene, I have the will in my hot little hand right now--dated the third day of May 1779 and Christian died on the 6th day of May, 1779. So the answer is not all that simple to explain. Joan
I just received an e-mail from Barbara J. Brown who is working on a book and stopped long enough to ask me a question that I guess I tried to hide from until now. Nothing that she presented is news to me but I guess I just have been ignoring the facts on this one. So listen up and put your thinking caps on all of you Christian Geiger descendants--here is something to think about. We assume Christian Geiger's first wife (and probably the mother of his son Wilhelm) is Barbara. We know Christian married Anna Maria Esskuchen 18 March 1739. We know Christian married again, after Anna Maria's death, on 23 Oct. 1752 to a widow Christina Veit. We also know that Christian Geiger wrote his will and died in May of 1779, and in that will he names his wife Christiana. Then explain this! From the records of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, PA; Oct. 9, 1773: Christina, wife of Christian Geiger, who fell down the stairs and remained dead at the same place, ages 60 years and a few weeks. If Christina fell down the stairs and died in Oct. 1773 then who is the wife Christiana referred to in Christian's will in 1779???? Did he remarry once again???? Joan

I just received the following message from Barbara Campbell in Berks County, PA. I sure wish she had e-mail and could participate personally in this list. Since the Berks County Genealogical Society (where she volunteers) is closed due to relocation (probably for the summer) she won't be able until they reopen to check for Johannes Geiger (or Geyer) of Orwigsburg or to look further for the Gucker/Gicker/Geigers in Berks County. She wants everyone to know that she didn't forget about it--it just can't be done until the Gen. Soc. reopens. She is still able to check the courthouse, cemeteries, and obits if that is needed. Joan
Joan: After years of searching it is nice to see other Geigers in my family coming out. I received a message off of the Somerset Co., PA site this morning from a Patty Staetter at mcs@ic.net who is related to Catherine Geiger (John Geiger's sister) and she is also looking for Geigers. I have ask for her genealogy to add to mine. She also had an interesting twist to the story of John Geiger's wife, Margaret McAdams. She says they came as a family in about 1811. I have ask her for the source of her info. Also, I sent you via snail mail some additional info I forgot to put in the package. Joan: I have received to replies to Benjamin Geiger this morning. I am attaching one of them. What do you think? Eleanor Hi Eleanor, I noticed you are researching Benjamin Geiger. I am also looking for information on the name...but spelled GEIGAR. I have a Benjamin Geigar married to a Mary Clever. They had a daughter Mary Frances Geigar b. 2 Jan 1863, d. 21 Aug 1942. She married Wilhelm Grier Clever...my greatgrandfather. I wonder if there is a connection. If these names sound familiar to you, please let me know. Any help I can get with this part of my family line would be so very appreciated! Thanks Again.....Belinda Clever Rosenberg - WindstarBC@aol.com Eleanor L. Sandy: This may be my family. I have a Benjamin Geiger born in 1837 but no other info since his father, also Benjamin Geiger III, is my ancestor through another son, John. They were in Westmoreland Co., PA as far as I know. I have info on Benjamin III if you want it. Eleanor, I copied you in my private reply to Belinda--I suspect you are all looking for the same GEIGER family here--the use of the name Benjamin is widespread in that family and I believe that alone provides us with clues--I am working to sort through the material you sent and also compare it to the rest of what I already have--it will take a bit longer to get my thoughts together on it. When I get my thoughts together I will post my thoughts to the list. I would not concern myself with minor spelling variations of the surname--spelling of surnames was not standardized to any great degree until well into the 20th Century. Joan
Makes it easier for us if we knew the state......thanks so much for your help. Mary
Does anyone have any information pertaining to the maiden name of Apollonia, wife of Ulrich Geiger? I have heard that she was nee' Seckinger, but have no confirmation of this. Also, does anyone know of any biographical information on Ulrich. I have sketchy information on him. Thanks for everything. And special thanks to Joan :-)~ John H. Smallwood, Jr. 18949 Marsh Lane # 1417 Dallas, TX 75287 972-306-9578
I know we have quite a few subscribers to this list who descend from the South Carolina Geiger family tracing from Hans Jacob and Abraham Geiger who settled in the Orangeburgh, SC area in 1737. This is a family I am not all that familiar with but feel that they are an important part of any study of American Geigers. I believe that several of you on the list have information as to your own specific branch of this family and have already shared some of that information with the members of the list. I have been looking for someone who would be willing to take the time to compile an article on this Geiger family both to share with the list and also to print in my newsletter at a later date. John H. Smallwood, Jr. (e-mail: jhs1964@gte.net) has agreed to compile any material submitted to him into an article on the SC Geiger family. Of course, due credit will be given to anyone submitting information to John on their particular branch of the family. We have allowed ample time to work on this and we have set a tentative deadline of February or March 1999 to gather and compile the data. John is already the author of the book "The Denson Family of Scott County Mississippi." I look forward to watching this project progress over the coming months. I hope that all descendants of this family including those with information on related topics such as the Weber Heresy that has already been discussed on the list will help John in any way possible. Please feel free to use the resources of this list as well as personal communications while gathering data for this project. Joan
Can you tell me what Alsatian means? It was mentioned in a previous note that the Geiger surname was derived from German/Swiss//Alsatian

I received the following note today from Bill Keiger and thought I would share it with the list. Joan In 1994 I received a letter from a Margarita Francisco in Illinois who visited family in Australia and became friends with Keiger family there who was interested in contacting Keigers in USA. HEINZ & JULIE KEIGER, 22 Bouganville Str. Manuke, A.C.T. 2603,Australia. Heinz's parents are Heinz , born 1914 Leipzig, East Germany and lived in Frankfort until 1962. Mother's name is Erika. Family immigrated to Canberra, Australia and the father is 81+ and mother 75 years in 1994. Heinz' g.father (Albert) did not return from WWI. Heinz & Julie apparently operate a beauty salon according to their letterhead. I have not heard from Heinz since early 1995, but he and his wife come to USA on business from time to time. I was told this is the only family of Keigers in Australia. Bill Keiger
Hi...can anyone give me some details about Ulrich Geiger and his wife, Apollonia? I have some sketchy information about them, but nothing complete. When and where born, parents, etc. I'd certainly appreciate it! And thanks Joan :-)~ From the pedigreed Protestant!
