    2. In a message dated 98-08-05 17:45:58 EDT, you write: > 1 John Charles GYGER 1836-1916 Cyndi, I think the first thing you need to do is to request a search for a death certificate for John Charles to try to learn who his parents are. If he died in 1916 in Illinois (which I am asuming to be the case) then a death certificate should be available for him. Write to Illinois Department of Health, Division of Vital Records, 604 W. Jefferson St., springfield, IL 62702. The state charges $10 for a search of the index and that charge includes one copy of the certificate. If you think he may have died prior to 1916 some local records are available by writing to the County Clerk's Office. Joan

    3. Does anyone have any information on Joseph Giger's second wife, Nancy McAdams? I am looking for a Margaret McAdams who married my Johanne Geiger. This would be a "long shot" but then finding this family has been a "long shot". Thanks! 2. Joan, I've thought the same thing. I was told by a Giger researcher by the name of Catherine Rossiter, several years ago, that Mary was born 1820 in KY, which would make her 15/16 when married. (I need to go back and check out that source...but my printed records are back home in AZ). After checking the census report, I put her birth year as 1820/23. I think there must be a mistake on that 1850 census report...or she lied about her age. You are right. I also need to check the Federal Illinois censuses for other years... Katy >If Mary is truly shown on the 1850 census as being 27 years old (and I would >want to see the film for myself to double check that--I have seen many >incorrect ages shown on census records) I would want to obtain other census >listings for her to see if her age might be recorded differently in those >years. The widow and some of the chidren in this family eventually moved to southwestern Missouri. If Mary is truly shown on the 1850 census as being 27 years old (and I would want to see the film for myself to double check that--I have seen many incorrect ages shown on census records) I would want to obtain other census listings for her to see if her age might be recorded differently in those years. I would seriously doubt she was 12 when she married. Joan

Sharon, I have that Carl/Charles in my records but I think he would be a bit too young to have been the Carl Geiger to have married and had a child born on 15 August 1789. He would have had to have married before age 17 which is quite unlikely in those days. The Carl/Charles Geiger you mention is the son Benjamin and older brother to YOUR Benjamin. Joan

    3. I am searching for information on my great great grandfather, John GEIGER. He was born in Wuertemburg ca 1839. His parents and siblings are unknown as is his exact birthplace. I do know that he was in Cincinnati, Ohio by 1860 when he enlisted in the Union Army. His military records do not have any additional information other than he was born in Germany and was 21 years old. He married Elizabeth GEISER (not a misspelling) 28 Feb 1865 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Cincinnati. Among their children were Anna Francesca (my great grandmother) and Magdalena. John died 29 December 1884 in Cincinnati and is buried at St. Joseph German Catholic Cemetery. His occupation was that of a cooper. In census records, cemetery records and again military records, his birthplace is listed as either Germany or Wuertemburg. If any of the above sounds familiar please contact me. Thank you. I am assuming you don't know whether John Geiger came to America as an adult (shortly before 1860) or whether he came earlier with his parents. Have you checked the 1850 Hamilton County, Ohio census? You mentioned checking census records but I wonder whether you have looked for John with his parents in 1850. The index I have shows the following Geigers in Hamilton County in 1850: Gottfried Geiger, Cincinnati, 10th ward, page 104 Elizabeth Geiger, Spencer Twp., page 249 John Geiger, Sycamore Twp.page 419 There are also a whole bunch of Geyers and one Kiger in this county who could have been Geiger with a variant spelling if the above don't work out. Also, are you familiar with the German To America series of books? It might be difficult to actually find the ship arrival record in those books for a John Geiger unless you know more specifically the date he emigrated to America. How about immigration or naturalization records--have you looked for those? Joan

    3. Joan: This is my family but I am not going to be much help. I would love to see the deed for the adjacent land that was owned by Benjamin Geiger so I will try and track that. I have no answer to when Benjamin died but since Benjamin Jr. does not show in all the census records in Westmoreland Co., PA in 1810 and I found it I guess it could be possible in Berks Co., PA also. I will try and get to the Ohio Historical Society after the Ohio State Fair ends later this month and look at the PA census records. An article called "The Larimer Township Story" in the Daily American, Aug. 21, 1974 states: "Some of the early settlers in the region were Johnathon Long, Danile Lepley and Richard Geiger." The 1817 Triennial Assessment for Southampton Township, Somerset Co., PA performed by Jacob Martz enumerates a Giger, Richard (single freeman). Carol
