Dear Joy; I am the one who forwarded all those messsages to you in response to your query with Joan about Herman's Sister and Brother-in-law...The Lutheran Pastor's Journal documents that Herman wrote and offered to pay their passage, however, we never knew if it was accepted...Seems now, that it may have been, or at least they got here by some means... I know that becasue of the "ethnic cleansing" (Oh, they didn't call it that, but it was the same, anyway) where the Bishops were clearing out all the protestants and siezing their property, the ones who stayed were very poor...also, those caught leaving were stripped of most of their assets...I think Hans Jacob, Abraham, and Herman fled with their families, just in time...or they would have lost it, too. Anyway, it is good that you have joined our List and we hope to be able to share and glean from each other's wealth of Data...WELCOME!!! I am a Texan, resident of the DFW metroplex, but presently on assignment in the Seattle area...so much of what I have comes from my memory...My files are in Texas...and if I find that I told you something incorrect, I will correct it... Welcome to the group, Joy. The name as we know it is HABLÜZEL, pronounced Hahb-luht-zle or Hahb-lert-zle, perhaps. It's a "t-z" sound in the middle and that "t" could indicate how your branch became "Hob-litt" ... which is a totally new name to me! The only HABLÜZEL I have in my data base is Elizabeth, wife of Herman GYGER - who was the son of Gov. Hans Jacob GYGER and Margaret FEHR of Canton St. Gallen, SWT. The name was changed to GEIGER when they came over to SC in 1737. My notes on Elizabeth: "Called Lisabet in Swiss marriage record (Feb. 26, 1734), but known as Elizabeth in America. The Andrea Files say her family came from Trüllikon, Canton Zurich, Switzerland, but didn't name her parents. The Lexicon der Schweitz says the Hablüzel family was prominent in Trüllikon as early as 1554. "An article in the State Newspaper, 13 April 1958, about the Herman Geiger Memorial Stone, gives her birthdate as 25 Dec 1711. It lists only two children: Catherina, born 1734, and Hans Conrad, born 1736. Says data came from Zurich, Switzerland, State Archives. If correct, it could indicate that only their first two children were born in Switzerland. Catherina is not listed on the Memorial stone. Nothing further on her." Sorry I can't help more. Hi, Bev, welcome back. There have been too many new developments to remember them all. Maybe you'd best scan the archives. That DONNOM/MARTIN connection still seems to be debatable ... like Mercy's last name <g>. Dear Margie and Gerry, I have been wondering where you are, Margie. I haven't seen you on the list lately. Gerry, your theory sounds reasonable (about the men acting for the females regarding property). My question is: was John A. Martin's wife named Elizabeth Donnam or is this Elizabeth Donnam the wife of another Martin? Margie, you might have done some research on this. I would love for the Geiger descendants to meet at Ebenezer again in 2001, but Jim and I may be in France at that time. Margie, I did not receive a copy of the article written by your sister on the Geiger descendants' visit to the Salzburger meeting. I would love to have a copy if you have one. Nancy Geiger Ford

Land sold in Jasper Co, GA on 1/27/1810 (p 146 Jasper County, Georgia Deed Books 1 & 2 1807-1810) by James Martain, Bryan Co; Abraham Geiger, Bulloch Co; Felia (Felix) Geiger, Bulloch Co; Elijah Martain, Bulloch Co; and Stephen Reigs, Bulloch Co to John Henderick, Wilkes Co total of 202.5 ac in Land Lot 58, 12th District was originally granted to John A. Martin, Denmarks Dist, Bulloch Co, GA in 1807 Georgia Land Lottery (p 122, The Second or 1807 Land Lottery of Georgia, GA Gen Reprints, Silas Emmett Lucas, Vidalia GA, 1968) Land lot 58, District 12, B Co. (It may have been explained before but I missed the explanation.) Is this John A Martain, the father of James or the brother or someone else? Has anyone found the churches where these Martins preached? Still looking! Margie
At this moment, it is not clear if John A. Martin is our grandfather or gr-Uncle...I believe that he was our Grandfather, who was married to Elizabeth Donnom(Dunnam/Dunham) and that the "A." initial was entered to distinguish him from Rev. John Nicholas Martin, the noted Lutheran minister of that era... My reasoning is that, chauvinistic as it may seem, Wives' property rights were vested in their Husbands, and since Abraham's wife Mercy, and Felix's wife Mary were believed to be daughters of our Rev. John Martin, and James was their brother, mentioning of Abraham, Felix, and Stephen Reigs(Riggs) as co-owners of this lot would seem to bear out the fact that they were acting in their wives behalf... I think this Deed is "our guys..." >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [GEIGER] John A Martin, Bulloch Co, GA >Date: Sun, 20 May 2001 09:16:56 -0700 > >Land sold in Jasper Co, GA on 1/27/1810 (p 146 Jasper County, Georgia >Deed Books 1 & 2 1807-1810) by James Martain, Bryan Co; Abraham Geiger, >Bulloch Co; Felia (Felix) Geiger, Bulloch Co; Elijah Martain, Bulloch >Co; and Stephen Reigs, Bulloch Co to John Henderick, Wilkes Co total of >202.5 ac in Land Lot 58, 12th District was originally granted to John A. >Martin, Denmarks Dist, Bulloch Co, GA in 1807 Georgia Land Lottery (p >122, The Second or 1807 Land Lottery of Georgia, GA Gen Reprints, Silas >Emmett Lucas, Vidalia GA, 1968) Land lot 58, District 12, B Co. I received this tip from the Kim Komando radio show... This is a really good tip on how to avoid opening the viruses and full easy instructions are included below... Sorry if you feel this was a waste of the group's time... Al Berger ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ KEEP IT ON THE QT: Privacy tips you need to know...and pass on. TAME VBS E-MAIL VIRUSES You know about the danger of double-clicking on e-mail attachments--especially VBS files. By just following a few simple steps, you can block Visual Basic Script (VBS) viruses from infecting your Windows 95/98/Me system. The problem stems from the Windows default action for double clicking on these files--the "open" command. By changing this action to "edit" the file will be harmlessly displayed in Notepad instead of being executed (and infecting your computer). In Windows Me, go to Control Panel, select Folder Options, and choose the File Types tab. From the displayed files, select a file with the .vbs extension, and click the Advanced tab. Next, highlight Edit and select the Set Default button. (you might also want to repeat the process for files with the following extensions, too: .js, .jse, .scr, .shs, and .shb). In 95/98, start in Explorer and select View, then Folder Options. Click the File Types tab and scroll through the displayed list of file types (the details are listed at the bottom of the window). Scroll to the file with a .vbs extension and then select Edit, and choose Edit from the Actions list and click the Default button (repeat the process for the other extensions listed above). If edit isn't listed in the Actions window, select New, type Edit in the Action window and c:\windows\notepad.exe in the Application used to perform action window, then click on OK.
