    3. well... I have been doing just that for the last 24 hours or so... just going through all my "loose" printouts and labeling them for my filing cabinet, and planning for my next research steps. I stayed up all Sunday night until 8:45 AM this morning , then slept until 3:00 PM , and began again with determination to finish the stack before I would even draw near to my inner sanctum down the hall. :o) I completed my task, and then approached my e-mail. And now, dawn is approaching...again (I lose all track of time doing my e-mail.) Today, I will file first, then read the first 25 messages, then begin responses by e-mail, and bookmark web sites until noon. since we do not have separate phone lines for Internet and fax, I will sign off and work off-line, for about two hours either feeding my genprogram, or using my word processor, preparing to share with those who do not have e-mail. I try to set goals like this and stick to it as close as possible. Those who can fax info to me are notified by correspondence as to when they can most successfully reach me by fax, and if I am expecting this kind of response, I try very hard to stick to the schedule I sent. We have just begun our reunion season, so I'm planning for them by printing family group sheets for each reunion, compiling info to share and ask for more. These reunion deadlines help me discipline myself to stay on task and get the job done. That does mean that my timing is rigid, but it helps organize and stay on track with great success. Does this help anyone? Other days are filled with visiting bookmarked sites and checking online forums for responses to my queries. ----- Original Message ----- From: TINA PEDDIE <tina@tcsn.net> To: <GAWILKIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 25, 1999 11:30 PM Subject: [GAWILKIN-L] Research, research, research, WHAT NOW??? : *HI ALL: : Having done your genealogical research for years, or months (in my : case, abt 25 yrs), WHAT NOW????? We continue to be on lists, and search : high and low for our last known ancestor's parents...... we collect and : file and (hopefully) input the data into our genealogy programs .... now : what????? : For me, I need some MOTIVATION! I need to take what research I have : accumulated over the years (that is not yet in my PAF program), and put it : in there and put it on a webpage, and keep it organized and out there for : others to see and connect to. What about you?? Have you done this, or do : you keep your genealogy program (PAF, BK, etc) updated? I am very bad at : this, and you can probably tell why .... I spend so much time doing : Research, and spending time ONLINE, that I dont take the time to do my : "homework" --- transferring all this wonderful information and family names : over to my genealogy program! : Anyone else have this problem??? : I also have wanted for several yrs now, to not only collect the data and : put into my PAF program, but also want to do a Family History book of some : type for myself, my family, my descendants.....I'll bet most of us on these : lists have plenty of info and pictures to do just that. What stops us?? : No time? : Not sure how? Waiting for just "one more name" to add to it????? : Maybe we can help motivate each other, and ourselves at the same time, : by sharing ideas as to WHAT WORKS, and if something has worked for you , : HOW YOU DID IT! : Also, DO NOT FORGET to *back up* your files and your emails! Maybe : some of you are good about that, but I had a HD crash in March last year, : and it was no fun. Lucily, I had backed up the HD a few mos. earlier, but : did lose 3 months worth of info. I swore I'd never get that far behind in : backing up, but have done so again now! So I may take the next couple of : days to get backed up, and to organize my files/emails, and spend a couple : of weeks (?) on getting all my info put into my PAF/genealogy program. : Don't know about you, but I would feel such a sense of relief (and : accomplishment) if I had all my research in my geneal.program, and uploaded : onto a simple genealogy webpage. : How about you? Any thoughts? Suggestions? Do you need help too????? : (just some food for thought.....) *TINA/CA* List Mgr. : : ______________________________
