Does anyone have any information on the HANSKATE or HANSHATE surname? I am looking to find more info on a woman named Barbary with the above last name, (not sure of the spelling) she is in dwelling 361 living with Daniel R THOMAS and his family in the 1850 Irwin Co. census. Along with her is a Jacob age 35 and a Permalia age 17 and Barbary was age 60 and born in NC, her jacob and Permelia were both said to be born in GA. This family somehow connects to my THOMAS line. If anyone can shed any light on this subject I would be a happy tree shaker!! Was Barbary Daniel's sister? Or could she have been a sister to Nancy JOHNSON THOMAS, wife of Daniel? I have copies of Wills and probate papers from Union SC, in these pages mentions a Barbary, widow of Richard THOMAS. Can anyone offer some assistance with this matter? Thank you, Lana
