In case some of you are not aware of the plans for celebrating Wilkinson County's 200th birthday on May 11, 2003, this message will provide a summary of some of the events. I have taken this information from a recent article in the Wilkinson County News and a telephone call with one of the members of the Bicentential Committee, Jimmie Lord. BICENTENIAL TOURS will be conducted in four areas of the County on specific Saturdays in April and May as well as other events leading up to the GRAND BICENTENIAL CELEBRATION in Irwinton on May 31. The Saturday Community Tours are scheduled as follows: Allentown/Danville April 12th; Toomsboro/Balls Ferry Arpil 19th; Gordon/Ivey April 26th and Irwinton/McIntyre on May 3rd. Each town will provide tour guides, routes, sites & events. Since I am most interested in the Toomsboro area, I obtained some info about that specific tour. Busses will leave Irvinton at 10:00 am on Saturday April 19th and after "historical presentations" at several stops will arrive at Toomsboro about 12 noon where food will be available and other events conducted. The busses will return to Irwinton later that afternoon. I don't know about the other Tours, but assume that they will be similiar. I understand that siginificant efforts are going into the planning and I am sure there will be a lot of activities for all to enjoy. Jimmy Lord indicated that additional details will be available soon and distributed through the Newspaper. I will pass them to this List as I become aware of them. Bill Ramsaur
