Boy,I don`t know about the rest of you, but this stuff drives me crazy sometimes, especially trying to track down Solomon Thompson(James Russell Thompsons father). If anyone has info or theories or just wild guesses, I`m open to them. I talked with Grover Lewis today, he remembered when Old Man Fordham plowed under the graveyard where he(Solomon) was supposed to be buried, along with several other graves. Thanks Harold Thompson

Harold, The only thing I have, which would fall into a catagory somewhere between myth and wild guess, is that my mother (who is Grover's first cousin Teenie) says she's always heard that some of the ancestors fought with Francis Marion in South Carolina. There were Thompsons in the PeeDee area of South Carolina but whether any of them could have been Solomon's father or grandfather I don't know. I do a fair bit of research in that area, because that's where my father's line is from, and I haven't run across a Solomon Thompson there, but I've seen Thompsons and Thigpens (my maternal grandmother was a Thigpen, but her line was supposedly from NC before GA). Probably no help but I thought I'd throw it out there.
