Spear married Lettie J. Lytle in Thomas County, Georgia, in 1867. The similarity of the last names is intriguing... but I have no idea what to make of it. One or more men named John R. Spier/Spear owned land in Columbia County, Florida, with his claim going back to 1826 or before... but one of the deeds identified one of them as being resident in Pike County, Georgia. I believe that possibly one of these John R. Spiers was my Allen's father and if there was another the other was his brother, but that is a hypothesis awaiting proof. Perhaps if I keep plugging away I can figure out if and if, how, these folks are connected.
