    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Meadows and Moore Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/He.2ADE/1343.1 Message Board Post: Hi Leigh: My husband's Moore line came to Wilkinson County in the early 1800's and went to Jackson Co. FL around 1860, then to Covington Co. AL. My husband's gggrandfather was James Moore born 1806 SC who married Elizabeth Meadows born 1816. I have a lot of information on both the Moore and Meadows lines so maybe if we put our heads together we can figure these folks out! I am fairly certain that the Meadows family in Wilkinson came from Spartanburg Co. SC and are related somehow to John Meadows RW soldier who was living in the household of Joseph Meadows in the 1840 census. I have the pension records of John Meadows but his children are not named. According to the census records and other researchers it looks like John might have married 3 times and had around 20 children but I haven't found anything that names these children. I have found a land record dated around 1838 in Spartanburg Co. from John W. Meadows giving his land and household belongings to his son John W. Meadows Jr. f! or love and affection and I think this might be when John Meadows left Spartanburg County and moved to Wilkinson County to live with Joseph Meadows. The time frame is right. I don't have your John Lee Meadows in my database. Was his family originally in Wilkinson County? Do you have other information such as dates or where he was born? Also, please tell me more about your Moore line. Looking forward to hearing from you! Janet Moore

    3. I was looking at the 1800 Census for Union County & the only children listed in Henry's house are two little girls, by 1810 the name Henry does not appear in Union but the name Harrison Bailey does with one male under 10, one 16-25, & one 26-44; females 2 under 10, & one 16-25. The only other Bailey's listed are Solomon Bales, Abraham Baley, Granger Baley, John Baley & William Baley. Did Henry move from Union County after 1800 or before? 3. Yes, I have thought about Grandmother Tabitha's marrying a Wynn but doubt it given all the Wynn's living around them in the 1850 & 1860 censuses & no record, to my knowledge, has been found of a Tabitha marrying a Wynn but there is record of John marrying Tabitha Wynn. As well I believe Tabitha's being a Wynn would explain how Nancy knew & married William H H Bailey. I believe also that Georgian Wynn(e) listed with John & Tabitha in the 1850 census is more than likely Tabitha's sister. Sincerely, Lena Merry Christmas...Ho, Ho, Ho! See Poem below that probably pertains to many of us :) Twas the Night Before Christmas >> >> For Genealogists >> Unknown >> >> >> >> 'Twas the night before Christmas >> when all through the house >> Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. >> The dining room table with clutter was spread >> With pedigree charts and with letters which said: >> >> "Too bad about the data for which you wrote. >> It sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat." >> Stacks of old copies of wills and of such >> Were proof that my work had become much too much. >> >> Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, >> While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. >> And I at my table was ready to drop >> From work on my album with photos to crop. >> >> Christmas was here, and of such was my lot >> That presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. >> Had I not been so busy with grandparents' wills, >> I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. >> >> While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas >> cheer, >> I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. >> While I was thus musing about my sad plight, >> A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a fright. >> >> Away to the window I flew in a flash, >> Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash. >> When what to my nearsighted eyes should appear, >> But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. >> >> Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew >> With a sleigh full of toys, and ol' Santa Claus, too. >> And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof >> The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. >> >> The TV antenna was no match for their horns, >> And look at my roof, with hoof-prints adorned! >> As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, >> Down the cold chimney fell Santa - KEE-RASH! >> >> Dear Santa had come from the roof in a wreck >> And tracked soot on the carpet! I could just wring his neck! >> Spotting my face, good old Santa could see >> I had no Christmas spirit, you'd have to agree. >> >> He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work >> And filled all the stockings. (I felt like a jerk). >> Here was Santa who'd brought us such gladness and joy; >> When I'd been too busy for even one toy. >> >> He spied my research on the table all spread. >> "A genealogist!", he cried (My face was all red). >> "Tonight I've met many like you", Santa grinned, >> As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. >> >> I gazed with amazement - the cover, it read: >> "Genealogy Lines For Which You Have Plead". >> "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug", >> He said as he gave me a great Santa hug. >> >> "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, >> I do some research in the North Pole Library!" >> "A special treat I am thus able to bring >> To genealogy folks who can't find a thing." >> >> "Now off you go to your bed for a rest - >> I'll clean up the house of this genealogy mess". >> As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, >> I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. >> >> While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle >> To his team, which then rose like the down of a thistle. >> And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, >> >> "Family history is fun! Merry Christmas! Good night!" >> > > > > ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> > Help save the life of a child. 1. *Happy Thanksgiving* Local Comm. Food Banks
    2. Tina Peddie
    3. *Happy Thanksgiving to all: For all of us who will have a full table, and full stomachs, and hearts and homes full of love and loved ones tomorrow, I am sending this as a little reminder that there are many who are not as fortunate, many innocent helpless ones who, through no fault of their own, go hungry. I just received the letter from my local Food Bank and want to share just a small portion of what was said in it. I think most of us do "give" during this time of the year to those less fortunate than ourselves (and hopefully other times of the year as well), but if this causes you to pause for a moment and think about those who we could help right now, please be sure to call your local County Food Bank in your area and find out where you can either help out with time or money. You will be blessed for it, and so will others. "We pray for those: Who will eat anything/Who have never seen a dentist Who are not spoiled by anybody/ Who go to bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep Who live and moe, but have no being For those who will grab the hand of anybody kind enough to offer it." ******* If you want to give a few dollars but don't know your local number, get in touch with me privately and I'll help you find it * Thanks, and God bless, May your Thanksgiving table be full of love, loved ones, physical, emotional & spiritual blessings ...... *Tina & Jim*

    3. Harold, Thanks, this is very interesting! I didn't know Aunt Mamie had a newspaper column! Paul Thompson Jr. was my great-aunt Mamie's nephew, son of her brother Paul Columbus Thompson (1896-1970). Aunt Mamie was Mrs. Wavy Lewis and I think that Mr. & Mrs. John Fincher would have been Cousin Gladys & her husband. Mr. & Mrs. Edward Lewis would be my great-great uncle "Shadder" and his wife. They were visiting with his mother & stepfather. Shadder was the son of Jesse P. Thompson and his third wife, Nettie Mae Ussery. I'm not sure about Mr. & Mrs. H.F. Freeman, but Paul Columbus Thompson married Thelma Freeman, so they were probably in-laws. Hope this is helpful. He says he missed school very much and is happy to be back. A large crowd attended Sunday school at Salem last Sunday. Among the visitors present were Mr. Geo.
