One of my students has traced her ancestors back to Betsey Stevens born 1820 and her son, Jerry Stevens born around 1852. Jerry married a woman named Lena or Lenor. Jerry named one of his daughters Casie and I know this name is seen in the white Stevens family is this area. Possibly Betsey or Jerry was once a slave of the white Stevens family? There is very little available for records of African American families, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

DEAR ANCESTOR Your tombstone stands among the rest, neglected and alone The name and date are chiseled out of polished, marbled stone It reaches out to all who care, it is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist, you died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you, in flesh and blood and bone, Our blood contracts and beats a pulse entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled one hundred years ago Spreads out amoung the ones you left who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot and come to visit you. --Author unknown Thanks to Pam Hudson (Moore cousin) for having this on her very nice genealogy website! Sandy P., this reminded me so much of YOU!! I bet you are getting ready for your trip to FL to see all the ANCESTOR HOME PLACES!
The Cemetery Book published by Joe Maddox has family listed and where they are buried. It is not arranged by cemetery. This makes it difficult to copy the pages for a specific cemetery. Also Mr. Maddox did not include any children in his books. Hope this helps. I am doing some major research on the Mount Carmel Cemetery and am trying to identify some of the now unmarked or unreadable graves. I would like to compare that list to my current list. I would love to have a copy of the pages from Mount Carmel's listing if possible. If anyone can help me, please email me at joymccook@yahoo.com I will be glad to show you my work on the cemetery. I have photographed all the headstones and am working on publishing them on my website for all others to view and possibly help in their research as well. Joy have you found a picture of the old church building? There is a cemetery cleaning/reunion there in the mo. of July
Hi Joy If you are speaking about the Wilkinson Co. Cemetery book by Mr. Jos. Maddox, there is a copy in the library in Macon. If you don't get the information you need from someone, you could write them and the librarian will xerox the pages you need for a fee. You can contact them by email. If you don't have their site address, let me know and I'll send it. Good luck! Barbara S.
