    3. The subject line is a bid aid in deleting e-mails you aren't interested in. The only problem with that, is remembering to change it. And we won't fill up the archives if we start a new message rather than responding to the same e-mail which causes the original e-mail to be forwarded ~ repeated over and over. Just a thought. Now you can delete. LOL I have "rescued" two old Bibles, so far, that had family history written in them. One from a flea market and one from a yard sale. Personally I don't see how any one could be willing to part with a family Bible and how they can profit from selling a family Bible. Anyway, I then post a message about the rescued Bible on rootsweb message board ~ for any of the surnames found in the Bible, in hopes of finding someone doing reserach on those family's. I am happy to say that I was able to send one Bible to a family member.

    2. So you found a gold mine!!!! I had it happen the other way once. I posted a newspaper article on a little known relation to another board once and someone found me that had my 2gr-grandfather's civil war letters on a website which when told to a cousin I did know, she gave me 5 more of his civil war letters I didn't know she had, then the "new" cousin found another relative with pics of all his children. Now we can no longer call this man "the old man and the cow" as the only pic of him we had was him with his cow - now he has a history and personality (from the letters) to go along with the pic. It's amazing how one "tiny" seemingly insignificant post (well to me anyway) can turn up so much! Of course it is always going to be more interesting when it is your own relatives! Have a great day! and Have fun!!!! 3. Tina, I do think Winnette has a point about one announcement that new items had been added (maybe an announcement once a week, if there is anything new?) being more appropriate than an announcement for each new item. That said, I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from adding new items, as they are a great and valuable resource, and the more information and data available on the internet instead of at the courthouse or in someone's attic, the better it is for all of us. I'll shut up now. I think Winnette has unsubbed from this list, which I'm sorry about, but I don't control what others post (such as the pictures etc, which I see no harm in anyway), but I just wanted to say I'm sorry for the inconvenience of these postings and hope we can get back to normal. 2. Does that gotomypc work well? is it only good to use from a laptop or a single specific computer or can it be used to access your home computer from any computer such as whatever computer you happen to land on at the library? I presume you'd have to have one of those permanent connections like DSL or something on the home computer and then leave it on all the time? 2. Tina, Joy McCook posted to the archives at genweb (the more stuff posted the better as I've had some great "finds" that way and I've posted stuff and other relations "found" me) but then genweb (archives-poppet) posted each one individually to the list all in one day. Since it happens on other lists too perhaps it is just the way things are to be able to inform as many as possible what is new. Don't know -it's all MAGIC to me! BTW Joy thanks for posting. Although it isn't any relation to my family someday someone might post something else that is. I have some stuff to post there too for Wilkinson county but I have to go back and get the reference sources straightened out as I got them mixed up- before I can post. Have a great day all! 1. Re: [GAWILKIN-L] surge or emails --Tina
    2. Tina, what he was referring to was the 20-30 emails saying "archives-poppet" about the McCook and related families that posted to the Wilkinson county list last night. They were easy enough to delete (since they aren't related to me- had to check some out anyway -just in case) but if such is going to happen over long periods of time unexpectedly, it would clog people's inboxes. I know at one point in time a few years ago that alot of stuff added to the archives would come up individually but then somehow later on instead there would just be a link posted to the new files. On one list I'm on, when someone was going to add ALOT of tombstones over a many days. She put out a warning ahead of time so people could switch to digest mode if they wished. Of course everyone wants as much info posted as possible-- it was just the unexpected surge of emails last night that could make it a problem if over extended time periods especially if someone is away or doesn't check their emails that often. What is weird is as you don't seem to know about them, I wonder why they didn't come over on your computer..... (that would explain why you only seem to know of the three emails between you and Eileen) Rhonda Raye

    3. Tina, I'm thinking the problem might be the 20-30 emails received last night and this morning announcing pictures, etc. that were added to the GA GenWeb Archives for Wilkinson county. This is the only list I subscribe to that has this sort of announcements. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the only list I subscribe to that has people adding things to the Archives? Usually the announcements only come 1-2 at a time, and not all that often, but there were a lot of them last night. Is there any way to put those into a DIGEST form rather than as individual announcements? 3. Yes, i've used gotomypc for for at least a couple yrs while traveling. It's a lifesaver~ I love it! You can use it from any library or any pc with internet access. You access it via their website. Yes, you set it up ahead of time from your home, so you have it downloaded on your HOME COMPUTER ahead of time and, yes, your home pc has to be left ON - or if family is there, they can turn it ON for you.... you see your DESKTOP exactly as if you were sitting at it at home~ (well, you see everything is what i mean, all files, etc etc, emailk everything; but only thing differenet, which isnt a big deal, is that photos don't come in quite as clear... but for everything else, it's WONDERFUL!) Gotta go pick up my daughter a prescription, gotta run~ We live on the central coast of CA, near Pismo Beach, and we are two hrs away , staying near her doc til she has a post op appt. on Tues, in good ole Bakersfield! 3. HI ALL: While out of town on my laptop, and brought a bit of genealogy papers with me, I am looking a little more at my THOMAS JACKSON family and wonder if anyone here knows any more abt him/them, or is kin to them? See below: my THOMAS JACKSON was b. 1795 "Ga", altho I thought I'd seen 'SC' somewhere, but could be wrong. He was the father of my AMANDA JACKSON b. 1827 who mar. DAVID W. SMITH, died in Civ War. I *think* these are my THOMAS, but have some questions: *** 1850 CENSUS: THOMAS JACKSON & "Nancy Crutchfield" are listed together. WHO IS SHE to him? ** I dont have my books w/me or FGS's...but are these all siblings? AMANDA (ages at 1850), 23, SEABORN 24, MARY 17, MARTHA & MARK (twins?) 14? ** 1860 CENSUS shows THOMAS JACKSON, 65, & SARAH JACKSON (dtr? wife?) age 21, and Elizabeth, age 8... Is Sarah a YOUNG wife??? I had heard that one of his wives was a Smith ? Wd love to hear from anyone if they know anything abt this family. Thanks, *Tina*

    3. RHONDA & ALL: I did see them, but to tell you the truth, I am out of town with my grown daughter who recently had surgery, and I'm using my laptop and until recently, I was getting my emails via my remote online isp ... anyway, just yesterday/last night is when i finally got my "gotomypc.com" acct going (that I use when out of town), and not only did all these extra emails to this list come thru, but apprx 500+ others, that were downloading for the first time since i've been gone from home the last few days.... so when he first mentioned it, I didnt think of it right away, because they all came in (to me) with the other 500+ emails of my own from other people/places... sorry I didnt 'get it' right away, what he was referring to. Yes, it was alot of emails, and I, like you, also just DELETED quickly when I saw no connection to me, except the KINGERY one ...she is probably some distant cousin to me, so I saved her :) Thanks for your suggestions and comments. 1. lots of emails!
    2. Tina Peddie
    3. Thanks, Donali, I do now remember those coming in. It was alot and it was annoying. Those are not anything I can manage, but if you want to put yourself on DIGEST, I think that would make them come in in one big email, rather than indivdiually. I forget who posted those, if I even knew, but hopefully (while the pix are I'm sure valuable and useful to some descendants!) there won't be zillions of them coming thru again. Sorry for the inconvenience....but for someone who is a descendant of anyone in those pix, it could be a wonderful Find that wouldn't be considered an inconvenience! :) I did see that one of the pix appears to be related to my KINGERY line (not my dir. ancestor), but even that photo will be of interest to me --- but to someone, it may be their direct line ancestor! We dont see that happening much at all on this list, not to that degree, so hang in there and hopefully we won't be having all those emails in the future.... 3. GNW, I have no idea what you are referring to, unless you mean the *discussion* btwn myself and Eileen regarding the book.... #1 - that was not an Announcement, but *discussion*, altogether appropriate for a list like this, and #2 - Being Easter weekend has nothing to do with genealogy discussion. You are welcome to Unsub from this list if you find it bothersome in any way. Sorry to lose you, if you leave. Maybe you are just having a bad day. If so, please stay if you'd like and maybe next week will be better :) *Tina, List Admin.* PS Far as I recall, if this is what you are referring to, there were only 3 emails btwn Eileen and me. If it was something else, I havent seen what it could be. ----- Original Message ----- From: "GNW" <gnw@rose.net> To: <GAWILKIN-L-request@rootsweb.com> Cc: <GAWILKIN-ADMIN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 15, 2006 6:47 AM Subject: Unsubscribe > One email announcing all these would have been enough. > We did not need all of this sent on a Holiday weekend. > I am sure some of those on the list will have mail bouncing > because of it.
