    1. [GAWILKIN-L] Getting Wills from Wilkinson Co.
    2. Crilley
    3. That was a very good question about how to get a will from Wilkinson County. In Taylor County, you can write to the Probate Judge's office at the courthouse....give them the exact date (and page number in the will book if you have it) and then include $1.00 and they will make a copy for you. I think the theory is that they can "copy", but not "research". Does this work with Wilkinson County? Also IF you have any wills, please do type them up and submit them to the GAGenWeb Archives by sending them to: Carla Cegielski@ncweb.com She will post them permanently there with your e-mail attached so that people can contact you. The SURNAME will come up in the Search Engine for the Archives, no matter what county/state you are in to start the search. If you've not visited the GA Archives site....do... http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gafiles.htm Some material (like Bibles) are posted as a State, while things like Deeds are posted within the County....so be sure to visit what's there for Wilkinson County! 1. [GAWILKIN-L] JAKE/JOHN LORD-HELP-
    2. TINA PEDDIE
    3. *HI JAKE: Saw your email about John WEsley Lord. Since he was b orn in 1828, you will of course find him on subsequently Census records. To find out who HIS FATHER WAS, you'd want to look in the area where he, John Wesley Lord, was born, and then look in THAT AREA (county/town) on Census records, tax records, etc., for a Male Lord of the right age to be his FATHER. On the 1830-1840 census (2 census'), you could look at all the Lord's who have a son of the age your John Wesley would be at that time (on 1830 census, your John W. would be abt 2 yrs old), write all those possible Fathers' names down, if they have sons of the right age for your John W., and just keep track of those Lord men, as very possible/probable fathers. On 1840 Census, your John W. would be a 12 yr old child .... so do the same thing, write down all the Lord men, who have sons who wd be abt 12 yrs old.... THEN, look at the 1850 Census, and find those men, AND on the 1850 Census, they then started listing NAMES OF ALL PEOPLE IN THE HOUSEHOLD, and you will hopefully see your JOHN WESLEY LORD as, by 1850, a 22 yr old! But of course, he may not be in his father's home still, as he may be out on his own. BUT, if you follow the Census', starting with 1850, it will show THE PLACE OF BIRTH OF MOTHER OF EACH PERSON AND FATHER OF EACH PERSON.... Also, look at Wills, Deeds, Taxes, etc. This may be stuff you already have done, but just in case...... and maybe it will help someone else along the way too. Best, *TINA/CA* List Mgr.

    1. [GAWILKIN-L] SIMMONS, Zadock; 1821 Partial Will Transcription
    2. Jennifer
    3. Hi All, I received from a kind researcher a partial transcription from the will of my ancestor, Zadock SIMMONS (c1756-a1824). I've included it below in hopes that it may help someone (or that someone with a connection will appear <grin>). Spelling, punctuation and numbering is shown here as in the transcript. Anyone related to this family, please be in touch. I think this a quite an interesting document, and would enjoy discussing it. Best, Jennifer Jacksonville, FL jennifer@leading.net Proud RootsWeb Sponsor+ Join us at GATHOMAS-L, ABBOTT-L, STANALAND-L p.s. If anyone can tell me where to write to get an original copy of this will, I would be very appreciative. Also, I'd like to find out what happened to Zadock's slaves. Can anyone advise how I might do that? === p. 227 [Book unk.] Will of Zadock Simmons (1821) Wilkinson County, State of Georgia In the name of God, amen! ..... I, Zaddock Simmons, of the County of Wilkinson and State of Georgia, being low of body, but sound of mind and in memory and calling to mind the certainty of death and the time unknown, do make, ordain and constitute this my last will and testament, revoking all others heretofore by me made and being possessed in simple fee of worldly goods do dispose of them in manner and form following, to-wit: FIRST. If it can be possible for my Executors, I wish all my slaves, to-wit: Ben, Ransom, Ag, Mill, Wash, Charity, Harry, Jerry, Lyse(sic), Kasky and Freeman to be transported from the United States of America to the coast of Africa and there set at their full and unrestrained liberty. And if the above named Negroes cannot be transported as above requested then to be disposed of in the following manner. SECOND. I hereby request that my faithful slave, Siley, be set free and immediately after my death. And when she becomes unable to support herself then my Executors are to give her a genteel support of the proceeds of my estate during her life. I give my son, John Simmons: Ransom, bed and furniture and a cow and calf. FOURTH. I give to my tiny grandson, Lacey Simmons, son of John Simmons, my Negro fellow, Harry, Ag, and her three children: Dark and Freeman, which said Negroes are to remain in the hands of my Executors; that is, my Executors are to have the hiring of said Negroes until my grandson Lacey arrives at the age of 21. And the proceeds arising from the hiring of said Negroes together with other profits arising from the sale of other articles hereinafter mentioned are to be used as such a part thereof as may be necessary to expend in giving my grandson a good and sufficient education provided his father, John Simmons, will allow my Executor to have him instructed as herein requested. FIFTH. I give to my four other grandchildren, John, Zaddock, Sallie and Claiborne, my four other Negroes; Ben, Mill, Wash and Charity which said are to remain in the hands of John Simmons, father of the four last mentioned children until the four last mentioned shall arrive at an age of one and twenty of the males or the marriage of the females and as the male arrives at the age of 21, then he is to have his part allotted out to (continued) === Unfortunately, this is where the copy of the transcription ends. I don't know if the paragraph "THIRD" is missing from the transcript, if the will itself was misnumbered, or if the transcriber made a mistake.

You will also see William Lord who made the will is living with his son John and his wife Mary.I have a copy of that will but my copy there is no H.after William? All of these Lords are related I am sure but to tie them to- gether is one more job!!!I In the 1880 census Appling Co. The only person who was born in Maryland and the right age to be his father was Henry lord age 64 in the 1850 census of Wilkinson Co.John Wesley names his first son Henry. All the information we could ever find on Henry was the 1850 census.
