REPOSTING *HI ALL: Here are just a few Wilkinson Co. related websites you must check out. Bob Kingery, a distant cousin of mine in SC, has a GREAT website that includes MANY Wilkinson Co. families, including his and mine! (Bob and his wife found out they are cousins through one of these lines!). His site is at: www.duesouth.net/~bkingery/ David Watkins has a good WATKINS website (my Watkins line is in Wilkinson and Wash.Co.GA, so I'm putting this website in here as it may contain some of our lines): www.inet.au/~davwat/wfhs/index.html And of course JEFF'S *GAGENWEB* WILKINSON CO. website .... this is a must! http://hometown.aol.com/johnstien/Wilkinso/gawilkin.html *PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU KNOW OF OTHER GOOD WILKINSON CO. SITES, or sites that contain info on some WILKINSON CO. ANCESTORS! * *TINA/CA* List Mgr.
*EXPLANATION #1 - found it!* *HI ALL: Go over and take a look at the WILKINSON CO. 'RESOURCE' PAGE, if you haven't already. There are some new Links on this page, and once I get the bugs worked out, the Link in the upper-left-hand corner will Link back to Jeff's GAGENWEB WILKINSON CO. PAGE with many great Links & Resources! On this RESOURCE PAGE, near the bottom, you will see links to some other pages (see the colored "puzzle pieces", and CLICK ON those! These new links (on the puzzle pieces) are new and not much in them yet....in fact, almost nothing! But I'm going to be posting some info, and I'd like to invite all of you to try to post as much as you can there too! It's the way we will get our WILKINSON CO. RESOURCE PAGE full of good, useful Info; and esp. for those of you who don't have a webpage, the special links will be great, because the info will stay there FOREVER.... it doesn't 'fall off' after a month or two or three..... so if any family members ask "Hey, what do YOU have on our ancestors from Wilkinson Co.?", you can direct them to the RESOURCE PAGE, or directly to the page with OBITS, PENSION, BIBLE, WILLS or DEEDs, showing the info YOU PLACED THERE, which will remain there forever! (well, almost 'forever'! Forever's a long time............) So get out your info, and go over to the RESOURCE PAGE, and then go down and CLICK ON the puzzle pieces, to get to the pages that have - OBITS - PENSION - BIBLE REC. - WILLS - DEEDS And post a message there.....these individual pages are strictly for these items having to do with anyone from WLKNSN CO. They are just like a "query board", except that you do not REPLY to anyone there, and you don't ask questions there! These "BOARDS" (I shd be calling them BOARDS) should only be used for posting the particular info that fits into that BOARD.... so any info you have on WILLS for your Wlknsn Co. ancestor, you would post on the WILL BOARD. Any info BIBLE RECORDS you have on, your Wlknsn Co. ancestors, you'd go into the BIBLE BOARD, and post it there, etc. It will just take you a minute to go take a look at the RESOURCE PAGE, and then go down to the new 'BOARDS' (WILLS, DEEDS, PENSIONS, OBITS, BIBLE), and you will then see what I mean. So you just post to these Boards as you would a Query Board, but this won't be the place to ASK QUESTIONS OF SOMEONE....you can get their email add. from their POST, and email them or post the question on this Wlknsn Co. List.... So each of these BOARDS should be neat and tidy, as to WHAT'S ON THEM! I have some other info on this, but will send in the next one, so's not to overwhelm anyone (like myself!!!!) TO GET TO RESOURCE PAGE: http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/GA/Wilkinson/ *TINA/CA* List Mgr. He who says 'it cannot be done' should not interrupt he who is doing it. - Chinese Proverb
*HI ALL: Did anyone see two DIFFERENT posts from me today, regarding the RESOURCE page and the new BOARDS?? I typed and thought I sent 2 different emails to the List, one first explaining it, the other more about each BOARD ... but I only see one post from me... the 2nd one on the BOARDS..... If you got two DIFFERENT posts from me today (of explanation of this stuff), would you mind letting me know, and maybe forwarding back a copy of it to me? thanks much. I think my brain must've switched to 'off' today.....<G> Thanks! *TINA/CA* List Mgr. He who says 'it cannot be done' should not interrupt he who is doing it. - Chinese Proverb
*ABOUT NEW WLKNSN CO. BOARDS (WILL BOARD, DEED BOARD, BIBLE BOARD, etc.- we will be POSTING particular types of info on these Boards, like posting info on a BULLETIN BOARD.... so we call them BOARDS....) OBITUARIES: Ideally an OBIT would be something from the newspaper. If you have OBITS from newspapers, pls. post that. But many of the early newspapers didn't really have the type of obit that we have today, so feel free to add information that you might know about the survivors and create your own obit. (Not to be confused with info that would go on the 'BIO' BOARD, below.) BIOGRAPHIES/Family Histories: BIOS could be anything from a listing of just the family members to some actual facts about the family, where they lived, worked, etc. This info will hopefully be of use to someone else someday. This is a great place to put ALOT of good info about particular families. Remember, though, this isn't a place to put Queries or Questions..... just straight INFO and FACTS. DEEDS - WILLS - PENSION RECORDS - BIBLE RECORDS .... these should all be pretty self-exlanatory. Put as much or as little info as you have for all of these. Even just a bit of info with names, dates, places, as many details as are available, that will pinpoint people and places. It will take us a while to get these BOARDS going strong, but a little at a time will help! I haven't had time to go post some info I want to, but will try this week! I think BOB FISHER has posted something somewhere on there. You can see his! Alot of the info that we post here would be appropriate for the BOARDS...... We will get the feel of it, and figure out what should go where...... This Wlknsn Co. LIST is a great place for making contact with people, cousins, sharing info, giving advise, suggestions, connecting and sharing family info....but the BOARDS will be a place we can all go to and post our facts and info, and know it will BE THERE INDEFINITELY for everyone to benefit from. So if you hear from a new cousin somewhere and they want to know ALL THE INFO YOU HAVE ON YOUR GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS, you can say, "GO OVER TO THE BOARDS and read what I've posted there and you'll know everything I know!" (well, sort of!) Let me know if this is confusing, or if you have any questions about it. It's fairly new to me too, so don't feel bad if you don't get it right away. The best thing is to just GO TO THE RESOURCE PAGE, and then go down to almost the bottom of that page and you'll see the PUZZLE PIECES that you can CLICK ON to go right to the particular BOARDS (Wills, Bios, Deeds, etc.) I had wanted to have some of my own info posted on the BOARDS before telling you guys aboout it, but if I didnt tell you NOW, I'd prob. get too busy and wouldnt get to it for a while! So here it is! Have fun, and ask questions if you need to. I'll do my best to clarify anything I can! ALSO, be sure to see the other LINKS from the RESOURCE PAGE!!! The Link to the GAGENWEB PAGE is a MUST!!! It's a great webpage for our County!! And look at all the other stuff on the RESOURCE PAGE too, as you scroll down to find the PUZZLE PIECES to the BOARDS ... there's lots of other links! BE SURE TO SEND ME YOUR WEBPAGE if it contains WILKINSON CO. HISTORY OR GOOD WLKNSN CO. STUFF..... we can get us all linked together! **Ok, now you can go take a nap, since you've made your way thru all this!** *best to all, *TINA/CA* List Mgr.
*WE ARE NOW 75 MEMBERS STRONG!* 57 regular mail 18 digest mode Digest mode means they hold onto it until there are a few to send at one time; I am normally on Digest mode when it's a very busy list. Otherwise, you are getting lots of emails per day from just one list. But this list I do stay on the Regular mode because I like to see what's coming thru right away, when it's first sent (not have to wait for the Digest to catch up!).... Feel free to post names again if it's been a while (as we have ALOT OF NEW MEMBERS HERE!) ***Please BE SURE TO LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE A WEBSITE pertaining to WILKINSON CO, or if it has alot of WILKINSON CO. NAMES OR INFO that you'd like to share with the rest of us!*** **TINA/CA** List Mgr.
hi Jo Ann: i dont know of them, but have seen the names doing Wlknsn Co. research. I'd suggest checkign these names thru IGI/A.F., and the two good Wlknsn Co. Books! In fact, I HAVE one of those books (lost the other one when moving 10 yrs ago!!), and I will try to remember to check the names for you, ok? If you dont hear in a few days, pls. get back and remind me... I dont mind being bugged when I've forgotten something! But will try to remember! Also, check the Census records for these folks in Wlknsn Co in the years they wd have been on the census --- 1870 1880 1900, etc. Best, TINA/CA At 03:58 PM 9/21/99 EDT, you wrote: >Dear Tina, My ggrandmother, Sarah A. Does anyone have info on the Mt. Nebo Church in Wilkinson Co? I would be interested in the original members. Also, I have heard it was started by a Rev. KING? Does anyone have info on the KINGS--where they were prior to Wilkinson Co? Thank you, Cynthia CARTER DYER
>NAME: Cynthia CARTER DYER >EMAIL: wsdyer@centuryinter.net >DATE: Sep 19 1999 >URL: http:// >QRYTEXT: The CARTERs lived in District 24 which later became Twiggs Co., GA. I am searching for info on CARTERs-Samuel, John, Joel, Stephen, Abner, Thomas, Benj.-who lived in Wilkinson Co. from 1807 to 1809 (1809 Twiggs Co. formed from Wilkinson). John CARTER is believed to have married Zilpha BENSON Jan. 1807 in Lincoln Co., GA. Richard & Joseph BENSON also drew land in Wilkinson Co. 1807 lottery. Amy CARTER married Etheldred BOZEMAN, son of Samuel & Ann RICHARDSON BOZEMAN. Samuel CARTER may have come to Wilkinson Co. with Rev. KING who I have heard started Mt. Nebo Church. The CARTERs & BOZEMANs have long been associated with the Baptist faith & later the Primitive Baptist faith. *HI ALL: If you read my previous post to LUCILLE re the Wilkinson Co. QUERY BOARD, you know what this is.....feel free to go there and post your names and lines if you'd like. Be aware that for the past several months, I've been POSTING ALL THE EMAILS that get posted over there at the QUERY BOARD, here on our List. I post the message as well as the Name and Email add. of the person who posted to that Query Board. So if you read some of them and they sound familiar, that'll be why! But keep in mind, while WE here see all THEIR POSTS, the people who post to that QUERY BOARD are not necessarily all on this WILKINSON CO. LIST, so they may not know abt you and your lines! So post there if you'd like and cover all bases! To get to the Wilkinson Co. Query Board, go to: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkinson More news about more WILKINSON CO. HI LUCILLE: I dont have this name, but it sounds familiar....maybe b /c it's been posted here before.... did you check with the person whose email it was on FOSTER/MITCHELL/PAYNE?? He/she wd prob. be a good one to get in touch with. You could go over to the WLKNSN CO. QUERY BOARD and post a msg. there abt yours, and perhaps run into the person who had prev. posted theirs there .... I receive all emails that are posted to the WLKNSN CO. QUERY BOARD, and as soon as they come to ME, I forward them on over here to this List! But that doesnt mean that everyone on that WLKNSN CO. QUERY BOARD IS ON *THIS* LIST! So we get THEIR posts, but they may not all know abt us!! Why dont you go over there and post your names and see what happens!? I may go over there again myself and INVITE them to join us on this list too! To get to the QUERY BOARD where you can post your names, info, etc., go to: (I'll go get the URL for it, and post in a minute!--this would be good for everyone to do!) *JUST A THOUGHT: IF several or most of you on this List are , like me, also on the GA list, and are getting some of these posts DUPLICATED here (like the one I just posted from KRISTOPHER for GA lookups), would you please send me a real quick email to let me know that (like "GA LOOKUPS DUP.!), something short and sweet like that), if you would like me to NOT post to this list. I just realized that perhaps some of these are duplicates if all of us are also on the GA rootsweb list, and it would be a big waste of your time having to receiving them duplicated by me!! Let me know. If I dont hear from anyone on this, will assume it's ok as it's going..... Also, if there is anything IN PARTICULAR anyone would like to see on this list, LET ME KNOW .....
