Here is a very interesting & informative civil war "era" website... having to do with the culture/dress/customs of the times. *Tina* http://home.earthlink.net/~gchristen/
In case some of you are not aware of the plans for celebrating Wilkinson County's 200th birthday on May 11, 2003, this message will provide a summary of some of the events. I have taken this information from a recent article in the Wilkinson County News and a telephone call with one of the members of the Bicentential Committee, Jimmie Lord. BICENTENIAL TOURS will be conducted in four areas of the County on specific Saturdays in April and May as well as other events leading up to the GRAND BICENTENIAL CELEBRATION in Irwinton on May 31. The Saturday Community Tours are scheduled as follows: Allentown/Danville April 12th; Toomsboro/Balls Ferry Arpil 19th; Gordon/Ivey April 26th and Irwinton/McIntyre on May 3rd. Each town will provide tour guides, routes, sites & events. Since I am most interested in the Toomsboro area, I obtained some info about that specific tour. Busses will leave Irvinton at 10:00 am on Saturday April 19th and after "historical presentations" at several stops will arrive at Toomsboro about 12 noon where food will be available and other events conducted. The busses will return to Irwinton later that afternoon. I don't know about the other Tours, but assume that they will be similiar. I understand that siginificant efforts are going into the planning and I am sure there will be a lot of activities for all to enjoy. Jimmy Lord indicated that additional details will be available soon and distributed through the Newspaper. I will pass them to this List as I become aware of them. Bill Ramsaur

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/He.2ADE/1007 Message Board Post: Hatcher Family of Wilkinson and Twiggs. This is in response to a query whose email bounced back to me when I responded. Bob, please get in touch with me. betty in ga My aunt Addie was the daughter of Nannie Elizabeth Jackson McCallum and Linton Hatcher. Nannie McCallum, wife of James Ware McCallum, who died in 1875, married Linton Hatcher her overseer. She lived in Twiggs but it is very close to the Wilkinson co line and her family was from Wilkinson-at Toombsboro. I come from the McCallum husband but was very close to my Aunt Addie. Addie had one son who died, Linton Wood, so there are no descendants there.Linton Hatcher is buried in the Jeffersonville Baptist church city cemetery. His wife is buried in the McCallum country cemetery. I have contacted the descendants of Linton Hatcher's other children, but they know nothing of their ancestors. Somewhere in my "stuff' I have a picture of Linton Hatcher and some of his family in front of a grave at which someone was honoring the soldier. It would take some time of looking, and I don't have time to look right now. This picture might be of interest to you and your family. Please keep me in your files and contact me again in a few months if you are interested in the picture. My Aunt Addie Hatcher Wood and her brother John Will Hatcher were the only two children from the marriage of Nannie and Linton Hatcher. The only bad thing about changing email addresses is that I hope I don't loose contact with people that I might help or the reverse. Good to hear from you. betty in ga From Bob..... Cleaning out some of my (old)e-mail ran across this from you . Can you tellme who your Aunt Addie was and jow she was connected to John H. Hatcher---- There were two John H. Hatcher's in Wilkinson, one was the son of John Henry Hatcher, son of William Sr. and the other was John H. Hatcher son of James M. Hatcher , son of Major John Hatcher. The only Addie that I am aware of was the second wifr of William Greene Hatcher son of John Edward Hatcherbut that can't be then one because he was born in 1862, You have probablyfound what you needed by now any way. Cheers, Bob Hatcher (note new e-mail) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty Bivins" ........................................ I found this information this weekend: Twiggs County Georgia Abstracts Records of a Burned County Collected and Edited by Bess Vaughn Clark Applications of women joining the UDC in Twiggs Co. GA .p. 69........ "Applicant..Miss Addie Hatcher Address...Jeffersonville, Ga Granddaughter of John H. Hatcher. Resident of Wilkinson Co., Georgia, and enlisted from that county in June, 1864. Died in tlanta three weeks after he enlisted. My Grandmother, Mrs. J. H. Hatcher, gave one tenth of all she made on her farm to the Confederate cause. Recommended by: Linton Hatcher, F. H. Adkins, Co. I, 26th Ga. Regt. (HisX Mark) Admitted June 5, 1911" I don't know how much this adds or subtracts to what you already have on Linton. These dates for John H. Hatcher do not match what I found on the Internet. I find typo mistakes in almost everyone's work. I found one this weekend. When I get to Macon again, I will check Wilkinson records and see if there is a toombstone for John H. Hatcher. My Aunt Addie was a thorough, honest woman and I believe the information she gave was accurate, however again we have to allow for typing errors. You might check out the Civil War record to see if anything is in it. If you get that record done before I do, please share and I will do the same. Bob, please forward this to the other lady, I don't have time now to look up her address. thanks, betty in ga

Here's the names for the Cool Springs Church who signed the Article of Faith. Does anyone know any of them? Moses Tyson, David Holmes, Samuel Pouncy, Sion Davis, John Davis, Sion Davis Junior, Stephen Bryan, Stephen Bryan, Silvey Tyson, Abigail Holmes, Melemkia Hathhorn, Sarah Armstrong, Sarah Pouncy and Sister Davis." Jesse Pearce and John Albritton were the Elders who signed the constitution....so are probably from another Conference.... or maybe just another church. Virginia Crilley

Please if you have any information on any of these members --- let us know. We're also working on getting the Cemetery transcribed. It is a large one! This is one of the churches involved in the "split" --- Primitive and Missionary Baptist churches Lindy Hard shared this on the GEORGIA-L list....so wanted everyone on this list to see it as well: Source: "History of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Association (of Georgia) 1814-1964; Jones 1965. p19 "The churches of the Ebenezer Baptist Association first met at Cool Springs Meetinghouse (now anti-missionary or Primitive Baptist) Wilkinson County, Georgia (hence removed to Twiggs County, Georgia) on Saturday before the first Sabbath in March, 1814 for the purpose of organizing the Baptist churches lying in the forks of the Oconee and Ocmulge Rivers into a Baptist Association." ... "first regular Association session was held at Mount Moriah Meetinhouse in Twiggs county August 1814... Churches dismissed from the Hephzibah Association to form the Ebenezer Associations were: Rocky Creek, Laurens County, Whitehead's Meetinghouse, Laurens County; Big Sandy, Wilkinson county; Cool Springs, Wilkinson County; Poplar Springs, Laurens County; Sugar Creek, Pulaski County; and Mount Horeb, Pulaski County... " [other churches were dismissed from the Ocmulgee Association to join the Ebenezer Association] ... "First District- Richland Creek, Mount Moriah, Trail Branch, and Cool Springs..." Source: History of The Ebenezer Associaiton of Missionary Baptists in Middle Georgia, Walter M Lee, [date unknown] p4 "Rev. David Smith was pastor at Ramah in 1835. He was a member of Cool Springs for a long time. He was quite an able preacher, having several churches in the association"... p5... "The division of the missionaries and the anti-missionaries occurred at Bethsheba church in Twiggs County, Sept. 24th, 1836" Source: History of Wilkinson County [Georgia], Davidson 1930, reprinted 1997 p379 RE: 24th session of the Ebenezer Association held at Beersheba, Twiggs County Sept 24 1836... "the delegates of seven churches left the house... Cool Springs"... I suppose it was after this 1836 date that Cool Springs became Primitive Baptist. Virginia Crilley
