Posted on: Wilkes Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkes/10723 Surname: Askew ------------------------- I am searching for any information on ASKEW in Wilkes County and am thrilled to see another post with information/questions on Askews. According to a gg-uncle,Pleasant Askew, his ASKEW grandfather came to Wilkes County, GA from VA in 1814. He said that Wilkes County was made up almost "exclusively of Virginians." My unknown ASKEW ancestor was said to have become "a county officer in Wilkes and died in 1822." (Are there any records of Wilkes County Officers abt 1820?) His son and my gg-grandfather, Henry James Askew, was born a year earlier, in 1821. No Askew is listed on the 1820 census in Wilkes County, and I haven't been able to document the above information which came from the biography of Pleasant Askew in GA Men of Mark. Henry James Askew's mother is thought to have married a Purvis after the death of her Askew husband and removed to Webster County, GA. Pleasant Askew was the youngest son of 13 Askew children of Henry James and Polly Dykes Askew. I have pictures of a number of the Askew children, and there is a picture of Pleasant in GA Men of Mark.
