Following is a transcription of a "road maintenance order" found in Hancock Co. Inferior Court Minutes (1800-1808) Evidence I've collected thus far strongly suggests that the road ran from Powellton, Hancock Co., GA to White Plains, Greene Co., GA. This general area was part of Wilkes Co. previous to Greene's creation in 1786: "12-Jul-1800. District Five shall include the road from Obahdiah Richardson to Martin Gilberts and the following persons to work thereon, viz, William DENT Jr., William DENT Sr., Risdon Moore Sr., Zachariah Middleton, Hines Holt, Bolling Hale, John and Solomon Lankston?, Wyche & Tisdal Whatley, Abner Barksdale, Taylor Nelson, John Hill and Jas. Barksdale, overseer." Of those mentioned above, the following are known to have come from old Somerset Co., MD.: Taylor Nelson, John Hill, & Risdon Moore Sr. Evidence also suggests that the Dents lived on the "Powellton end" of the road.
