Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkes/670 Surname: WILDER, BENEFIELD, YOUNG, PROVENCE, CAMP, HILL, MOBERLY, HOSCH, WILLIS, COLLINS, DOWD, GOODE, BREWER ------------------------- I have been given a page from a book, perhaps court records, issueing a death sentence to the following men: John Bennefield, James Mobley, Dread Wilder, Joshua Rials, Clement Yarbrough, Edmond Downey, John Watkins, William Crutchfield, and John Young. John Benefield was sentenced to hang on Friday, September 3rd. All others were sentenced to hang on Monday, September 6th. There is no year nor mention of what the offense was. Witnesses for the State are listed as John McKinney,, Thos Johnston, Joseph Scot Riden, Wm. Herd, George Neal, Bryan Ward, James McLean, Absalom Ford, Thomas Owins, Saran Wright (at Heard's Fort), Francis Giddings and wife, Thomas Connels, Solomon Palmer, Robert Hammet, John Pendal, Joseph Nail, John Burgamy, Saml Payne, John Crutchfield and James White. Other names listed are William Downs, Benj. Catchings, Absalom Bedell, H.Manadue, Alex McDogal, John Laramore, Mrs. Paxton, Zach Lamar, Stephen Heard (jury foreman). Does anyone know any of these people? We need a starting place. Any information to help date this event would be appreciated. Of course, if you know the whole story we would love to hear from you.
