Posted on: Wilkes Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkes/10832 Surname: Gartrell ------------------------- Hello J. Couch, Thank you so much for taking the initiative to post this Wilkes County query on the Internet! You may have already received a response to you query privately by email, but I just wanted to point out a couple things: (1) Your family's genealogy starting with Harry Chester and Mamie Grace Gartrell and going back into the mists of time--or at least four or five generations--has been posted on the Gartrell Genforum in one of the William Gartrell's blockbuster messages. I'm afraid that I don't have the specific Message Number on hand (the Message Number allows you to go right to the specific information you are looking for); if you have trouble locating the information, just let me know, and I will give you more specific instructions. (2) You say that "your grandmother had a family tree done that started with three Gartrell brothers coming from France to fight in the Revolutionary War." Your line of Gartrells actually extends far back into the Colonial period, and the three Gartrell brothers--Joseph, Francis, and John--all of whom did indeed serve during the Revolutionary War, came from Maryland, not from France. I am descended from Joseph, the oldest of the three brothers, while you are descended from John, the youngest. By the way, Lucuis Gartrell is a grandson of Joseph. I am descended from Lucius' younger sister, Louisa Amarintha Gartrell. Hope some of this information has interesting and/or useful! Best regards, Bob Cummings in Seattle (wordnet@ix.netcom.com)
