They moved to Alabama before 1855. This would have been my great great great grandfather and his wife and children. They moved to GA before between 1842 and 1844 so possibly some of his brothers moved to the area. I do not have much info on this side of my family as I am researching 2 other lines at the moment. Wow - a Wilkes County 4ggf's name as one subject and his "possible" wife's name as another subject! And neither is about them! For Eleanor and any other Heard descendants, may I suggest that you subscribe to [email protected] (or HEARD-D...) and ask them? They have a lot of good info on the Heards. Posted on: Wilkes Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkes/599 Surname: Stewart, Dorrough ------------------------- Patricia, I caught your Wilkes note on Mary Ann Stewart, who moved to MS after marrying. My gg-grandfather was Arden Moore Stewart, m. Martha Ann Dorrough in Wilkes Co., GA. I'm uncertain of the dates at the moment (1856?). I have never found any of his people, even in the droves of Stewarts in the GA/Carolinas areas. Your Mary Ann could possibly have been an ancestor of his, maybe not. I am sorry I am not full of detail at the moment...a house fire destroyed all my records, and I am not yet back up to speed. This Dorrough family is extremely well-documented, but, as I say, I have been at the brick wall with the Stewarts. Arden and "Mattie" are buried at Philadelphia, Neshoba Co., MS, only a short distance from Lauderdale Co. Any ideas?? Bonnie

Posted on: Wilkes Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkes/596 Surname: Jordan, Jourdan ------------------------- I am seeking information about the descendants of William Jordan who lived in Wilkes Co., between 1790 and 1830. His father was Matthew Jordan b. 1712 in Albemarle County, Virginia. Some of Matthew's children migrated to Wilkes Co. Others, including Jonas Jordan and children, continued on to Autagua Co., AL. You may contact me at [email protected] or visit my web site at http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/j/o/r/Larry-E-Jordan/ Here is all I know about Matthew's son William: Descendants of William Jordan Generation No. 1 WILLIAM JORDAN (MATTHEW8, SAMUEL7, THOMAS6, THOMAS5, SAMUEL4, ROBERT3, THOMAS2, ROBERT1 JORDAINE) was born 1756 in Albemarle County, Virginia or Amelia Co., VA, and died in ??Wilkes Co., GA. Notes for WILLIAM JORDAN: This William Jordan is about the right age to be the father of William Enoch Jordan who migrated from this area to Heard Co., GA by 1840 and to Coffee Co., AL by 1850. William Jordan probably had at least 5-9 children if he lived a normal "Jordan life." Child of WILLIAM JORDAN is: 2. i. MATTHEW JORDAN, b. ??GA; d. ??GA. Generation No. 2 2. MATTHEW JORDAN (WILLIAM9, MATTHEW8, SAMUEL7, THOMAS6, THOMAS5, SAMUEL4, ROBERT3, THOMAS2, ROBERT1 JORDAINE) was born in ??GA, and died in ??GA. Children of MATTHEW JORDAN are: i. JAMES E. JORDAN, b. Abt. 1837. ii. MARTHA C. JORDAN, b. Abt. 1839. iii. LOUISA JORDAN, b. Abt. 1849. Link: Jordans from NC to GA to AL URL: <http://www.lumbee.homestead.com>

Posted on: Wilkes Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkes/594 Surname: MILLS GENT CRAWFORD SUTHERLAND ------------------------- Looking for the parents of my g-g-g-grandfather, William S. Mills b: ABT 1816 in Wilkes Co., Ga., married JANETTE CRAWFORD abt. 1839 in Abbeville Co., SC. It is believed that my William S Mills is a decendent of Alexander & Alias GENT (GHENT) Mills of Wilkes Co., Ga. It is my personal belief that he is going to be a decendent via Alexander Mills' son GILBERT MILLS who remained in Abbeville Co., SC when the family moved over to Pistol Creek in Wilkes Co., Georgia, possibly by Gilbert's son, William C Mills who married a Nancy Elizabeth "Betsy" Sutherland on Mar 4, 1806 in Abbeville Co., SC. My guess for this is because William S Mills later had a grandson named Robert "SUTHERLAND" Mills and its possible that the S in my William's name could be the maiden name of his mother, possibly: SUTHERLAND. Just speculation however, but I'd love to find any information on the family. Thanks, Brenda Mills Drews email: [email protected]

John Henry died in 1914, do not know the particulars on Elizabeth. I believe her father to be Avery Burwell Hood and mother to be Mildred Booth both of Wilkes , Georgia. There are Anderson tombstones in the church cemetary. Could there be some connection? I will appreciate any help.
