Posted on: Wilkes Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkes/682 Surname: Jourdan ------------------------- Larry, I have no information about your Wm. Enoch Jordan. Also, according to my information, Benjamin Jourdan's father was George Jordan, who married Patience Warren. Here is the other information that I have about him: Legend has it that he was killed by Indians, but I have no proof of this. According to Bob Jordan (jorbob@webtv.net) Benjamin's estate was administered by his brother Josiah Jordan in 1789 in Wilkes Co. GA. In the minutes of the inferior court, Wilkes Co., GA , the sons and daughters of Benjamin Jourdon asked that their uncle, Josiah Jordon, be appointed their guardian. It was granted 26 Sept. 1791. Josiah Jordon is named guardian to the heirs of Benjamin Jourdon, 24 Feb.1801. According to Suzanne Ammons, a researcher in Wilkes Co., there are several pages of estate and will papers listed in Will book "DD" of Wilkes Co., but that it was destroyed by fire in a lawyer's officewho had borrowed it. Information was listed as being of pages1,22, 150, 151, and 190. A Charles Jordin also was listed in this index of the years, 1779-1792. Information about Benjamin is in "Early Records of Ga, Vol. II, p. 344, where there is a long list of estate papers/ ....who was paid and so forth. The only Jourdan/Jordon listed in Wilkes Co. burials of Revolutionary soldiers was Reuben, of the Va militia. Some information from jorbob@webtv.com. He suggests that I hunt for more information in the records in Greenville Co., VA, Wilkes Co., GA, and Oglethorp co. GA. Early records in Wilkes Co. GA have information about estate of Benjamin Jourdan, Josiah Jourdan's guardianship of the children, board and singing lessons paid for Warren in 1802 and 1803, and receipts to James Jourdan from his father's and grandfather's estate. -- Researching the following surnames: Pickett, Gordon, Jourdan, Boulware, Bowler, Alston, Almand, Merrill,Cowan,Lovvorn

It is a pleasure to hear from you. Perhaps we have a link, but we have to dig a little deeper. ROBERT WALTON, married my g-grandmother, Pearl Johnson, in Wilkes county- late 1800's to early 1900's. They had three children. One son, ROBERT WALTON, one son, TODD, who chased his dog onto the front porch of their home during an electrical storm, and was struck by lightening and killed, and LUCILLE, my grandmother. I don't know if ROBERT AND PEARL divorced legally, but he did leave home early, and it is said that he left to find work. I guess there were not many opportunities for men back then. I am not sure if he went directly to W.Virginia, or if he migrated to other places first. Other than this, I have very little info. My grandmother, LUCILLE, is still alive but unfortunately, she has Alzheimer's disease at an advanced stage. I am not sure if her brother, Robert is still alive. He may be. If not, his children are still around somewhere, and I will try to find them and see what he may have shared with them. I hope that you will be blessed in your search. I believe John Benning was a kin of mine as my grand father told of one of our kin being hung in Wilkes County for stealing horses. Charles Bedingfield was on the Grand Jury that indicted him. Suzanne - I was on my subscription to Ancestry.com when your message came in via the Wilkes County GA group. I thought that if you were lucky enough to have the full name of James Washington Lee, there might be a chance to find something. I found the following: jgculver@swbell.net James Washington Lee born 1790 Virginia died 1 May 1819 Wilkes County Georgia spouse Nancy Foster daughter of William S. Foster and Susanna ________ children: Margaret B., Joshua, John Bell, and William Spephert (this is the spelling shown; either someone hit the wrong keys or misread an old handwritten document) You may already be in contact with this person, but for what it is worth............ Good luck.
