Othniel was a pioneer Baptist preacher in early Georgia history along with his step son-in-law, Jesse Mercer and many other Weaver relatives. Family tradition holds that his parents were Aaron and Hannah Weaver, who were killed by Bloody Bill Cunningham in the Massacre at Cloud's Creek in Edgefield County, SC in November 1781. He married first, Sarah HOLLEY the widow of Joel CHIVERS about 1783 in Chesterfield, SC, who had these CHIVERS children: Thomas 1768, Joel 1770, Larkin 1771, Sabrina 1772, Jane 1774 and Jamimah 1776.
