    1. Index for Marriage Book B 1806 - 1834
    2. Thomas Hammack, Jr.
    3. I have just posted a transcript of the Index for Marriage Book B 1806 - 1834 for Wilkes County. There may be some errors in the file and I plan to try to get to Wilkes County and compare it to the book if gas price and time allow the trip this summer. In the mean time, use it with the idea that since I reformatted the file kindly provided by Sue Meinhart. If there are errors, do not blame her. If it proves to be a problem, I will remove it. Hopefully some of you can take some of the listings and compare them to the book as you get to Washington, GA and use the book. If all who visit would take a page or two, we could correct it in a reasonable period of time. After my students are out for the summer, I will try to go and visit and see how much I can compare. I think that it is mostly correct, but comparison to some published indexes for all marriages, make me wonder which has the error. Looking at the reputation of some of the writers of the books, makes me bet that I have the errors. Please reply tome privately with your feelings to avoid tying up the list with a discussion of the merits of the posting. If many feel that it is more harm than good, I will remove it. I have a disclaimer on each of the pages. Reply to thammack@datasync.com It is indexed by both Bride and by Groom. -- Thomas Hammack, Jr. (Tom) Gulfport, Mississippi

    3. Have you tried Bastrop, Texas (Bastrop Co.) Several Callaway's are mentioned in my Barrett information, one being a brother in law of my great great grandfather Richard Barrett who left Wilkes Co. Ga. and moved to Bastrop, Texas. They left Bastrop and came to Daingerfield shortly after 1860 . At that time Daingerfield was in Titus Co. but Titus Co. was later divided up it is now in Morris Co. There is a Community in Cass Co. named Lassater in Marion Co. which is not very far from Daingerfield. I do not where it got its name. If I get any info I will try to let you know. 1. Re: Early Wilkes County Tax Lists on CD-R
    2. Yvonne and Steve
    3. Thank you all for your responses. Your overwhelming response has been two-fold: 1) These tax lists have been published. 2) You rent the microfilms if you need a copy of the original record. Therefore we conclude that there is no interest in having these original records available on CD ROMs and we shall not pursue any activity to create any CDs of this nature. This opinion is the same as we have found with the Virginia Tax Lists that we have attempted to create on CD. We originally thought that people would have great interest in obtaining the original records. What we find is that the transcribed published accounts are suitable for the vast majority and having copies of the original record is completely unnecessary. I have them in about 10 counties in GA but I don't have a lot of then in Wilkes. They were Connected to Weaver back in Surry, VA but some descendants married other Weavers in Wilkes. I don't see either of yours in my data base. Cookes is not my direct line so I haven't done too much detail work on them. Did you check my Cooke page for other possible connections? 1. Early Wilkes County Tax Lists on CD-R

    3. We have a question for all subscribers. If the early tax lists (1787, 1792-1794,1801,1805-1806,1812) were available on CD would there be any interest in buying them? These tax list CDs would be scanned images of microfilms. For example, the 1793 tax list contains 95 images on the microfilm. Therefore you would find all 95 images, in JPG format, on the CD. We have tried this with Virginia tax lists with extremely miserable results. Before we invest hundreds of dollars and hundreds of hours we want to know if anyone thinks this is a valuable service. Our investment of thousands of dollars for Virginia tax lists has only netted $120.
