I descend from the Smith family that went into Wilkes, the Oglethorpe Counties before 1800. My Nancy Smith was born in 1782, presumably Georgia, married John Hawkins, and died in 1836 in Oglethorpe Co. Her children were: Augustus Caesar Hawkins, Elizabeth S(mith?) Hawkins, Mary Ann Hawkins who married George Henderson Lee, Charles Alexander Hawkins, John Blanton Hawkins, Martha Washington Hawkins, Thomas Harrison Hawkins, Nancy Susan Hawkins who married Edward Birdsong, Rebecca Ann Hawkins, William Milton Hawkins, Harriet Blanton Hawkins, Felix Gibson Hawkins, and Thaddeus Henry Hawkins. Any one recognize this family? Many of these children immigrated to Mississippi after the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek and settled in both Monroe or Lowndes Co., MS. Any help would be appreciated. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkes/10825 Surname: Hall, Clark ------------------------- Sharon, I don't know if these people would be on my list or not. Everything comes to a screeching halt with Williamson Clark and his wife, Martha C.(Patsy) Hall. He shows up in Elbert Co. (cut from Wilkes Co. in 1790) in 1802 at about 18 y.o. Martha would have been only 12 then. We think they were probably married in GA about 1805 (he 21, she 15) as the first child arrives in 1806. In censuses, both stated they were born VA. Tradition says Martha was from Culpeper, but we have found nothing in the Culpeper records. We think Williamson may have been from somewhere in the greater Culpeper/Orange Co., VA area, but have found nothing in the Culpeper or Orange records. About half of their children have christian names that are the same as the children of the well-researched William Clark family of Orange Co. VA. We know that they had dealings with William's sons, George and Larkin, and probably some Beck kin, but we have been unable to nail any of these connections. But they also had dealings with other Clark's in Elbert that we have not been able to identify. If you have or come across any Hall-Clark connection, it would be of high interest.

Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Wilkes/10816 Surname: Mayes, Sutherland ------------------------- Has anyone in Wilkes Co. come across listings of Bible records published in FAMILY PUZZLERS, the weekly genealogy magazine edited by Mary Bondurant Warren from 1964 until 1998? I thought that HERITAGE PAPERS went out of business when Mrs. Warren stopped publishing Puzzlers the end of 1998. Not so!! I recently found the new websites for HERITAGE PAPERS as well as for FAMILY PUZZLERS, TNG, the monthly magazine edited by Mrs. Warrens daughter Amy Warren Sanders! Most of the items that Heritage Papers used to advertise in their annual catalog are still available, including back issues of the quarterly magazines GEORGIA GENEALOGIST and CAROLINA GENEALOGIST, lots of historic maps, as well as source materials for Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. Some bound volumes of Family Puzzlers are still available. For Heritage Papers, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/heritagepapers For Family Puzzlers, The Next Generation, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/familypuzzlers I just thought youd like to know, I did!! I have not been sending these strange emails. I did have a virus and it was sending the emails to you all. I am deeply sorry - Have finally gotten it out of my system and just gotten my computer back from the technician. It so corrupted my McAfee Virus Scan that I could not delete it to install the latest version. It was BadTrans 32. Terrible. Thank you for your understanding and again I am sorry. Loney

His parents were William and Nancy Slayden Pounds of Wilkes Co.. I have no information on Julia Amanda's ancestry. The name is spelled (or interpreted) as written above in marriage records of Pike County, not Berrien. My husband was descended from Daniel Slayden Pounds and his first wife, Malissa Short,(m. 18 Oct 1831 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia) through their son, James Daniel Pounds, b. 16 Jun 1840, in Pike County, GA.
Bailey, John G. Mary Williams Jun. 20, 1822 299 from Wilkes County GA Marriage Book B Tom Hammack ....Many thanks for posting the Marriage Book. This would appear to be the John G. Bailey who settled in Perry County, AL in 1818. This could be a second marriage for John G. Does anyone have any information on a prior marriage? I have a possible son, not the first, born 1818 in Oglethorpe Co. Would a copy of the Marriage License be available? Tom
