Amanda, The Wilkes County Rotens are connected to the Ashe County line who came from Delaware to Surry County, North Carolina during the time of the American Revolution. If you can be more specific on what you are looking for, perhaps I can be of some assistance to you. Danny Miller and I are preparing a book on the Roten family. Volume II will include the Ashe and Wilkes branches. If you have any family photos you would like to include, we would love to have them. Thanks, Loveta Miller Schweers

I am selling all my genealogy books & CD-ROMS. They are in excellent condition & I have them listed on http://genealogydiscountbooks.freeservers.com/ For example, I have “SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION REVOLUTIONARY WAR GRAVES REGISTER” with cemetery locations of over 69,000 war graves of soldiers & patriots & in many cases their spouses. Source: Revolutionary War Graves Register book pub. by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. NO OTHER SOFTWARE PROGRAMS REQUIRED. 21.99. Another example: CD #131, Family Tree Maker’s “VETERANS' SCHEDULES: US SELECTED STATES, 1890”--an index of approx. 385,000 war veterans & veterans' widows who were enumerated in the special veterans' schedule of the 1890 census. In 1890, these veterans' schedules were meant only to record information about UNION soldiers & their widows. However, many also recorded information about CONFEDERATE soldiers & soldiers who served in different wars, including the WAR OF 1812 & the MEXICAN AMERICAN WAR. The veterans' schedule generally provides the following detailed information: Veteran's name or widow's name. Rank. Company, regiment, or vessel. Dates of enlistment & discharge. Term of service. Post office address. Any disabilities. Sells new for 29.99; I am asking 19.99. And I have CD #351, Family Tree Maker’s “ROLL OF HONOR: CIVIL WAR UNION SOLDIERS” that. lists approx 191,000 UNION soldiers who were buried in over 300 national cemeteries, garrison cemeteries, soldiers' lots & private cemeteries. Most records give name, Soundex Code, Rank, Regiment, Company, Date of Death, & Location of final burial site. Some records give birthplace & the age at which he entered the service. • Soldier's name • Rank, company, regiment, & battalion to which the soldier belonged • State or territory of service Sells new for 39.99, I am asking 22.99. Thank you, Joan Deaver [email protected]

I am new to the list and have been looking for information on my gr-gr-great grandfather, William P. Merryman. Someone told me recently that a William P. Merryman/Merriman was granted land in 1832 Georgia Land Lottery. Does anyone know if the 1832 Lottery was for Wilkes County land? Also, could you tell me what qualified a person to enter the lottery--would he have had to fight in a certain war or was it simply a headright land offer? Thank you in advance, Lola Crane in Arizona

Philip Logan was in the Rev. War from North Carolina and served in the 4th Regiment of the Continental Line till early 1780. After that he moved to Georgia. He was a soldier in the Refugee Service under the command of Col. Elijah Clark. This service caused him to receive a bounty of 250 acres from Wilkes Co., GA on 12/4/1784. He also received a bounty of 287-1/2 acres (#1283) from Washington Co., GA in December 1783. He must have been a soldier in the Refugee Service in Washington Co. first (in 1783) and then in Wilkes Co. (1784) but have found no other record of the service which caused him to receive the Washington Co. bounty. He was a fifer in the Militia Company District of Capt. Matthew Hubert in Wilkes Co. in Nov. 1793. Records in both counties have been researched. We looked for a deed in Deed Book KKK in Wilkes Co. for 1786 based on information in the Wilkes Co. Deed Book Index but found the Deed Book itself covered another year--not 1786. Later found out that deed book information in other counties is sometimes transcribed to another book/index. Does anyone know if this might have happened in Wilkes Co.? Also, need to find out if Oglethorpe Co. might have any old Wilkes Co. records. I am trying to find any additional information I can on Philip Logan, particularly anything that would identify his spouse(s), children, siblings, etc., and ultimately link him to my great, great grandfather, Philip D. Logan (b. 1787) who was a soldier during the War of 1812. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Arnold Logan in Fort Worth, TX

I am searching for the burial place of William Langham and his wife Dorothy "Dolly" (Smith) Langham. He died about 1797 and she, probably in 1821. I was told that they both are buried in the Phillips Mill Methodist Church cemetery, but I find no evidence of the existence of such a cemetery. I have visited the Phillips Mill Baptist Church, and as far as I can tell, they are not buried there. I would like to hear from anyone researching this family.
