Hi, All. I'm new to Georgia genealogy and need help in getting started. I received the following information on my 5th g-grandfather but it had no documentation: "Alexander MILLS b. ca 1701/20, England, m. Alice GENT, b. abt 1738. Alexander died Oct 1777, Wilkes Co. GA . Alexander moved to Abbeville Dist., SC and then on to Wilkes Co., GA. About 1773, he was granted 150 acres on Pistol Creek, near Lisbon, GA, in old Lincoln Co. His will is dated 9/1777 Wilkes Co., GA and names his wife Alice and fourteen children." I looked on the map and in GNIS for Lisbon and Pistol Creek and they are both listed in Lincoln County (the northern tip). From the map on GNIS is does look as though Pistol Creek extends into Wilkes County. Where would I go to find out exactly where his land was so that I would know where to look for records? Also, what type of a grant would he have received in 1773? Harriette

Is this Isaac Williams related to Drury Williams, who lived in Wilkes County during the same time period?
As far as I know only Hinton and Burke and perhaps Bedingfield are the names I need from this county. Job's family married into the Bagby's in Missouri. Thanks to my blunder I received several promising leads including one that led to kin! Thanks to everyone - you know who you are! Bev
An erroneous post may lead to new leads. I am the Administrator for this board. While spam on the boards is not welcome, an honest error is something that can happen to any of us. In this case it was not on the wrong boad, just not the one that you thought you were posting to. In fact, there are several Baze, Bayse, Bazar in the Tax lists for Wilkes County. Are these your names? Also I find many Hintons, including Job in 1785 thru 1805. Post away and enjoy the boards and lists.
I apologize for taking space in posting my previous query. I thought Washington County and WIlkes County GA were one county at one time. I have received messages saying my query should be posted elsewhere. I understand! Bev Green
