I am very sorry that I have no info for you...but you have given me some. I, too, am a descendant of Letty Durham and of Thomas Jr. who ended up in Magoffin Co., Ky but I had nothing else on either one. Thank you for Letty's birth year and the "legend". I had the note that Thomas Sr. was killed by Indians, although nothing of the circumstances. I also had the note that Letty Durham was a Cherokee or part Cherokee and that the two were married in either GA or NC. Please let me know if you find out anything else about this couple and I'll return the favor if I get any information. THANKS!

I am interested in either of these Howards or Letty Durham. ANY info appreciated. THANKS!

    1. Re: Hackney Family
    2. Thank you so much for the information about Samuel S. Hackney's father, grandfather, and siblings. I didn't have any of the additional information you provided. The only correction I have is that Maggie Hackney who married William McArthur was Samuel Hackney's daughter, not his sibling. Here's the information I have: Maggie Hackney b. 3 Feb 1873 (in Union Pt, GA), d. 5 Feb 1909 (Augusta, GA) married William A. McArthur in Augusta abt. 1892. Maggie was daughter of Samuel S. Hackney and Cornelia Dorsey, married 1 Nov 1868 in Greene Co. GA. Maggie had 2 siblings Minnie and Walter. Maggie and William McArthur had 4 children: P. Alexander (my grandfather), Walter A., Ruth, and Ellen McArthur. Thank you again for your time and interest. It's very much appreciated.

    1. Re: Palmer/Jarrett
    2. There was a Soloman Palmer in Wilkes Co., GA who was born in "E. Jarsey" on 18 February 1763. He married "Sary" (Sarah) Wever of Virginia on 29 Nov.1784. (Soloman's father, Soloman Palmer , Sr. died in 1791 and is buried in Dawson Co., GA.) Soloman, Jr. and Sary had John b 1786, Simeon b 1789, Aaron b 1791 (all in GA), then Jane b 1793, Mary b 1795, Silas b 1797, Sarah b 1800, Benjamin b 1802 and Soloman III b 1807 (all in South Carolina). This is according to a bible of Aaron. Somewhere along the way their name became Palmour for some although I understand John continued as Palmer. At some point in time (in the 1760's) Soloman, Sr. had a small piece of land near Elizabethtown (Elizabeth) in eastern NJ. Not certain of his wife's name (this is a debatable subject) but they had at least 3 sons and a daughter. It seems Soloman,Sr and his 2 eldest sons, John & Soloman, Jr joined with Elijah Clarke but I don't know in which area they served, there is mention of Kettle Creek but whether the Palmers were there I'm not certain. They did receive land grants for their service. They were apparently in Wilkes Co., GA at this time. Later moving to Pendleton Dist.,SC. I hope this will be of some help. Fact or fiction, whose to say. Incidentally, my line comes from Silas above.

    1. Re: Turner's from Wilkes Co.
    2. Wow...you are the first person I have seen with the records....specifically from the 2nd wife Elizabeth McClean. I show them only having 3 children.... Cynthia, Lindon and Judson. Cynthia would be my great great grandmother. I know she married John Mead and moved to Carrollton, Ga. In the 1900 census she has 2 grandchildren living with her. Lula and Benjamin Smith, ages 16 and 10. Lula is my great grandmother and I am trying to identify the circumstances behind her living with the Mead's and who her parents were. Lula married John Potate and from there I have the rest if you are interested. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks. Kim
