MECKLENBURG, VIRGINIA MARRIAGES, 1765-1810 Bordering North Carolina in southern Virginia, Mecklenburg County was formed in 1765. Compiled from "loose papers" in the county clerk's office, this database is a collection of marriage bonds from the county between 1765 and 1810. Researchers will find the names of both bride and groom, and date of marriage bond. Many records also reveal their place of residence. It provides the names of over 4,500 men and women. As the county kept no official record of marriages before 1850, these records represent the only government held data regarding planned marriages in the county. For researchers of early Virginia ancestors, this can be an extremely illuminating database. Bibliography: Nottingham, Stratton.
