Hi All! My g-grandfather was James Samuel PARKER, born in Washington County May 14, 1837. I know that his father died when he was 8 years old. That would be about 1845. He had siblings, but they are unknown to me. His parents were born in North Carolina. When he was 17 years old, in 1854, he was living in Henry County, AL. According to his obituary in the Christian Index of 1-11-1883, he was orphaned; then when he was only 45 years old, he died and left orphans not old enough to take care of themselves. He gave his life to Missionary Baptist Church by helping to organize at least 9 Baptist Churches in the So. GA/ AL area. He was an circuit rider preacher who had lost a leg in the War Between the States. I personally think that had something to do with his death. We are at a standstill as to where to look next. We have obtained what little information we have on him in the book, "History of the Bethel Association", page 322, and The Christian Index. If there is anyone in Washington County who could spare the time to help us find his parents names, it would get us over a big wall and we would certainly always be grateful to you. God Bless the list and thank you! Charlene
