    3. The courthouse in Sandersville, Washington County, has wonderful records -- land, marriage, census, etc. I was told before I went there last October that "they had no records cause Sherman burned the courthouse." Sherman did burn the courthouse, but the clerk, Mr. Brookins, saved the marriage and census records by hiding them at his house. The land/tax records were recreated after the War. Who was the lot granted to? I have six lines coming out of Washington County: SHURLING, ELTON, JORDAN, SUMNER, PHILLIPS, BROOKS. Looking forward to hearing from you, bp ----- Original Message ----- From: <DONSHADDIX@aol.com> To: <GAWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 10, 2000 8:42 PM Subject: Early Records Dose anyone know were the original land grant records for Washington Co are keep or published? I want to know the location of a lot that was granted in 1784. Thanks Don A. Shaddix ==== GAWASHIN Mailing List ==== This GAWASHIN list is currently available for adoption!
