    3. Nancy, Sandersville and Washington County are a wonderful place to research. I always stay at the Villa South; I'm pretty sure they are on the internet. The Genealogy Society is across the street from the courthouse, which is on the town square. You won't have any trouble finding it. Everyone is extremely helpful. The courthouse has wonderful records -- even though Sherman did burn the courthouse in 1864. The County Clerk at that time, Mr. Brookins, buried the records books for census, wills, etc. The Superior Clerk unfortunately did not. However, most of the tax/land records have been recreated because folks came in a re-registered their land after the new courthouse was built. If you are looking for any trial-type records, they were burned. However, you can find newspaper reports from the Sandersville papers from that era at the Genealogy Society. Be sure to check with the Genealogy Society before you go. The last time I was there, they were only open on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. I do think you can make an appointment for other times, but I feel it is better to go when there are others there who can help. What names are you researching? I have a lot of lines from Washington County: LONG, ELTON, ADLER, SHURLING, BROOKS, SUMNER, PHILLIPS/PHILIPS, and JORDAN. I know you will have a wonderful time there. Plan to stay several days as there are lots of cemeteries to cover also. Good luck with your research. Hi all, Am planning a trip to Sandersville, GA., in Washington Co., to visit library, museum and courthouse. Does anyone know the addresses for these places? or is the town small enough that I won't have any trouble finding them? Also, what about places to stay? Thanks in advance for any help.
