Hi All! My g-grandfather was James Samuel PARKER, born in Washington County May 14, 1837. I know that his father died when he was 8 years old. That would be about 1845. He had siblings, but they are unknown to me. His parents were born in North Carolina. When he was 17 years old, in 1854, he was living in Henry County, AL. According to his obituary in the Christian Index of 1-11-1883, he was orphaned; then when he was only 45 years old, he died and left orphans not old enough to take care of themselves. He gave his life to Missionary Baptist Church by helping to organize at least 9 Baptist Churches in the So. GA/ AL area. He was an circuit rider preacher who had lost a leg in the War Between the States. I personally think that had something to do with his death. We are at a standstill as to where to look next. We have obtained what little information we have on him in the book, "History of the Bethel Association", page 322, and The Christian Index. If there is anyone in Washington County who could spare the time to help us find his parents names, it would get us over a big wall and we would certainly always be grateful to you. God Bless the list and thank you! Charlene

Hi I am new to your list. I am searching for info on William P. Cannady, born in Emanuel County, Ga., in 1856, died 1925 who married Marriah Olliff, born 1852 died 1907. They married around 1873 and had 8 children. They lived in Emanuel Co and in Candler Co. They are buried at the Olliff Family Cemetery in Olliff Town. When Marriah died William married Rosie Lee Bailey and had four more children. His father was Daniel B. Cannady born 1831 died 1887 who married Rebecca Durden born 1837 died 1910. They had eight children. We believe the brothers of Daniel B. are William E. Cannady and James H. Cannady. They each married Durden sisters. I have the names of the children of Daniel & Rebecca and the names of the children of William & Marriah. Can anyone add to my info, especially in locating the parents of Daniel B. Cannady? If so please e-mail me at CannadyGirl@aol.com or post to this list. Thank you in advance, Claudia
Hi All! Actually, the restaraunt is the Country Buffet on the square. At one time it was G.C.'s but Neil Pittman bought it several years ago. There is no Clinton Restaraunt. There is a Motel Clinton (tip: don't stay there!) which has a chinese restaraunt. We also now have a Mexican Restaraunt in Tennille, Teresea's. Also, I keep seeing mention of checking with the Genealogy Museum....You may call anytime and we will arrange to have someone open up the museum. No one wants to inconvienience anyone, but people don't seem to realize that that is the way we at the Genealogy Museum make the money necessary to keep running. We're all volunteers and there's not enough of us to open everyday, but we're more than happy to open up for someone from out of town. Email me personally and I'll be glad to open up any Saturday, since that seems to be when most people visit. If you don't get to visit the genealogy museum, you'rte really doing yourself an injustice. We have more genealogy data than the library or any other place in town. For all of you who haven't been to Washington County in years, you owe it to yourself to visit. We've really grown, but we still have that small town charm and that wonderful southern hospitality! Amanda Brown Logue
Could the restaurant near the square be the Clinton Restaurant? When I lived there many moons ago (1974-1977), it was the "only" restaurant in town, and we ate there every Friday night because it was seafood night, and payday. Washington County has a lot to offer when it come to genealogy... Our family genealogist, Gene Brantley, helped found the Society, and served as president at one time. We have our reunion there annually at Villa South Inn, and some of our family stay at Holiday Inn Express, too. Both are enjoyed. PSSST>>>you may want ask some one about the relationship of nearby Warthen community to Aaron Burr!!! If you like to camp, be sure to "reserve" space at Hamburg State Park....it's on the web.
