Hi Jennifer, I have never heard of a Tanner Comm Cem in Washington Co GA. Please let me know if you find there is one. I am fairly certain that my Tanner line was in Washington Co GA before they removed to Jefferson Co FL about 1840-1843. There are many Tanner burials at the Sister's Baptist Church as you may well know. I do have an abstract of that cemetery. If I can help you just holler. If I may ask- What Tanner line are you researching? My brickwall Tanner is a Joseph Tanner b 1975 Ga, married Mary unknown b 1800 Va. Any chance you run across him please let me know. Tanner Community Cemetery is located in Washington County Georgia on, I believe Hwy 24. It is just west of Tabernacle Methodist Church. You would probably be better off to ask for directions from someone that lives locally as the best I can tell you is that it is on the left as you head to Sandersville, in a grove of Pine trees! not very good directions I know, but I am sure if you contact the church someone there could give you better directions. Hi, My GGGGrandparents were James(B.~ 1810in Georgia) and Hetty Tompkins Brooks( B. ~ 1813in Georgia) of washington County, GA. Both died between 1870 and 1880 and are reportedly buried at the Tanner Community Cemetery in Washington County Georgia. I do know that Hetty was the daughter of Rukin and Rachel Tompkins . I would love to share whatever info I have on this line of the Brooks Family. judy Ennis Larson
Ross, There are a LOT of Elizabeth DORSEYs, and many DORSEYs married Elizabeths! Sorry, I don't find one that seems to match up. Is ROSS a family name? My mother, Nell Ross WHITT, was born in Sandersville, 6 March 1900. She got her middle name from a Dr. ROSS who delivered her. Also, I have a Richard Barlow JONES born 10 March 1828 in Washington County in my SIKES line. Could this be one of yours? I am researching the BROOKS and PHILLIPS lines in Washington County -- along with several others. However, my BROOKS line goes back to 1800 and my PHILLIPS line to Mary Polly BROOKS was born about 1786 in NC and died in 1864 in Sandersville, Washington County, GA. She married John L. ELTON about 1815 in Washington County. Mary Polly and John were my g.g.g.grandparents. Jane Della PHILIPS or PHILLIPS (I've seen it spelled both ways) was the daughter of Susanna (MNU) and perhaps John PHILIPS. Jane was born July 11, 1813 in SC and died July 08, 1891 in Washington County. She married Jethro B. SUMNER April 04, 1830 in Sandersville, Washington County, GA. Jane and Jethro were my g.g.g.grandparents. Are any of these names in your line? Betty ----- Original Message ----- From: David W. Hello Everyone! I've got two things I wanted to tell everyone about. First, the Washington County Genealogy Committee is working on a book titled "Families of Washington County" Everyone is invited to submit their family histories. The deadline is June 2001. The books will be hardbound and indexed and will have a researcher directory where you can have your name, address and email (you do not have to be in the directory ). We hope that this will prove to be a thorough compilation of family histories. Histories should be in story type form (no pedigrees or Gedcoms please). Histories may be submitted electronically via email or through regular snail mail. If you have questions or would like to submit your history, please contact me at alogue@sandersville.net or the Washington County Genealogy Committee at washingtoncounty@hotmail.com The other thing is , Washington County is forming a chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Anyone who has a Confederate ancestor and would like to join, please contact me alogue@sandersville.net We will be having a meeting on Sunday, February 18, 2001 at 2:30 P.M. in the Genealogy Museum. Thanks! Amanda Brown Logue
I have posted this query several times on this list, as well as others. If anybody knows anything about these people or can offer any suggestions, your input would be most appreciated. Olivia Williamson Saffold in Emanuel County, GA saffold@pineland.net THE BELOW MARIAH CORBIN WAS LISTED ON THE 1830 JEFFERSON CO.GEORGIA CENSUS LIVING ALONE AND AROUND THE AGE OF 17. WHY? WAS IT BECAUSE SHE WAS AN ORPHANED ILLEGITIMATE & POSSIBLY THE SISTER OF ALLEN MILTON IRBY, OR WAS HE HER CHILD? NOT HAVING HIS AGE IS THE DRAWBACK. SHE HAD TO BE CLOSELY RELATED TO BE CLAIMING HER INHERITANCE FROM HIS ESTATE... THESE ARE NOTES FROM PREVIOUS POSTINGS & RESPONSES: April 24, 1851: Emanuel County. A Power of Attorney from Silas J. Corbin and Mariah Corbin to Solomon Williamson in regard to the estate of Allen Milton Irby, deceased -- they claim themselves to be the lawful heirs to estate. Paper found in personal effects of Solomon Williamson. NOTE: Allen Milton Irby is found in Jefferson County, GA, land records. REPRINT of OFFICIAL REGISTER of LAND LOTTERY OF GEORGIA 1827 36th DAY'S DRAWING-April 17. JEFFERSON. page 111 Fortunate Drawers: Allen M. Irby, illegit, Captains District: Cunninghams Number: 19 District: 22 County: Muscogee County One word of warning, he may or may not have been illegitimate - I have one family that lied about it to get extra draws in the land lottery. Of course, they also filed under false names - and got caught. The Allen M. Irby shown as an illegitimate fortunate drawer, in the 1827 Land Lottery, should according to the law of that lottery, have been a minor and was being recognized on the same level as an orphan. If you believe your Allen M. Irby was older or an adult at the time of the Lottery, then there would be a question added for your Irby research. I tried, but I found no Alan Irby in any of my GA databases. In fact, the only A I found was Abraham or Abram - neither in Jefferson county. Here is who did show up in Jefferson: 1830 IRBY MARIA Jefferson County GA 408 No Township Listed Federal Population Schedule 1830 IRBY WILLIAM Jefferson County GA 418 No Township Listed Federal Population Schedule 1820 IRBY WILLIAM Jefferson County GA 278 Louisville Federal Population Schedule 1840 IRBY WILLIAM Jefferson County GA 108 76th District Federal Population Schedule 1850 IRBY RANDAL Jefferson County GA 154 48th District Federal Population Schedule 1850 IRBY WILLIAM T. Jefferson County GA 148 48th District Federal Population Schedule 1850 IRBY WILLIAM Jefferson County GA 153 48th District Federal Population Schedule Olivia, Was he in Jefferson Co. for the 1850 census? He is not shown in the Index. I have an abstract on Early Jefferson Co. Marriages, 1805-1885 with no Allen M. Irby. Would the other Irbys be of help? John, Randolph,Seaborn and John (again).
Hello Everyone! I just wanted you all to know, that I have redone the Washington County GenWeb site! It is now at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gawashin/washingtoncounty001.htm Please be sure to change your bookmarks. I have had a lot of complaints that the old page wasn't compatible with some browsers and frankly, I wasn't happy with the software. So now...new software...new page. Take a browse and tell me what you think. Some of the pages are a little slower loading (the African-American page for one) It may take me a few weeks to get everything up on the new page that was on the old one, but please be patient with me and if you need something in the meantime, let me know. As always, if you have suggestions on how to make the page better, please don't hesitate to let me know! Thanks! Amanda B. Logue mailto:alogue@sandersville.net

You may be aware that Washington County is one of the few places that has a copy of the 1890 census. However, it appears that some of it is missing. My own ancestors, the Hooks and the Stephens, are not listed. There was a Cleveland Adams listed, but he was only 5. Cleveland was listed with John W. and Martha Adams, in Davisboro, in the 94th Militia District. Your Cleveland would have been about 13 or 14. I hope someone will respond that has access to the 1880 census. Maybe next time. Clyde

Hi My name is Frances Hoffman Adams and I am searching for any information pertaining to my grandfather, CLEVELAND C. ADAMS, born in Davisboro, Washington Co, Georgia. I do not know his exact birth date, but probably around 1876. Nor do I know his parents names. He was working with the O.S.S. Company ( do not know what that means) in Savannah around 1913-1917. This information I got from my father's birth certificate. He married a Della Marie Lee, daughter of Thomas Tillman Lee and Julia Ann Morris. Cleveland and Della had two sons,Cleon Clark Adams and Allan Lynn Adams, both born in Savannah, Ga. I have hit a brick wall and would appreciate any help you could give me. Seeking general information about Solomon TANNER. A Solomon was listed in the 1850, 1860 & 1870 Census Index. It appears that Solomon was b abt 1826 GA and may have been the son or nephew of Joseph TANNER which removed to Jefferson Co FL. I would appreciate any suggestions or clues on this family.
