Otis E. Strickland ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted on Apr 8, 2002 Otis E. Strickland, 87, died Sunday night (4-7-02) at the Baptist Village in Waycross, Georgia after an extended illness. He was born in Manor, Georgia son of the late Samuel Arthur Strickland and Maggie Henderson Strickland and the widower of the late Frances Emily Wright Strickland. He had lived in Camden County Georgia for fifty-five years where he and his late wife owned and operated the Strickland Grocery and Variety Store in Woodbine, Georgia for thirty-two years. He was a member of the Woodbine United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War Two where he served with the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by three brothers Alvin Strickland, Sam Strickland, Jr. Hoover Strickland and one sister Vernelle Cribb. He is survived by a son Stan Strickland and his wife Tonya of Savannah, Ga.; a Daughter Jean Sedwick and her husband Hal of Kingsland, Ga.; three brothers Henry and Zeke Strickland of Waycross, Ga. and Bill Strickland of Homerville, Ga.; four sisters Gertie Hewitt, Mary Lou Inman, Aileen Collins and Blanche Taylor all of Waycross, Ga.; five grandchildren Pamela Scarbrough of Groton, Conn., Angela Gore of Goose Creek, S. C. Jennifer, Tim and Rhett Strickland all of Savannah, Ga.; two great grandchildren Miranda Gore and Joelle Strickland; a devoted friend Lucille Roach of Waycross, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning (4-10-02) at eleven o’clock at the graveside in Homeward Cemetery near Waverly, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home from six until eight o’clock Tuesday night.
