The 1st day of Spring is coming up soon, too.....March 20th; next Wednesday. Is it me or is Spring Break early this year??? And Easter is just two weeks away. The dogwood trees better get to blooming soon :-) We've had a scare; our future son-in-law is going through 'boot camp' at Ft. Jackson, SC and had to be rushed to the hospital at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, Ga this past Wednesday. He became quite ill and his kidneys went down to 20% useage. Our daughter was able to get into the hospital to see him and I think she was good medicine for him because he seems to be past the initial crisis and will be going back to the hospital at Ft. Jackson tomorrow or Sunday. Prayer works wonders :-) We had a storm here in Valdosta last Tuesday night. Although the weather services swears not, I do believe a tornado touched down in our neighborhood. We had several large pine trees uprooted and lots of tops broken out (not in our yard but all along the street right behind us). It was pretty scary; the day had been nice and I had several windows up airing out the house when all of a sudden it became very, very dark. The local news cut in with a tornado warning and I went outside to move my wrought iron picnic table & chairs closer to the house; a storm several years ago lifted the table and sent two of the chairs tumbling in the yard so I always move them close to the house if the wind picks up now -) Had gotten back inside and remembered the windows were open so ran down the hall to close them; put my hands on the sill of the one in the bedroom when I heard this incredible sound (like a train) and then heard trees cracking and the transformer at the back of our yard sent sparks out all over our yard. That scared the heck out of me :-) I grabbed our black lab and we got on the floor in the hallway until it was over. We were without power from 6:30 until 2:30 a.m.; had the candles going and my police scanner turned on :-) Drove around in the neighborhood the next morning and saw all the trees uprooted and all those tops down everywhere. We were lucky in that we only had a few limbs down and tons of pine cones. The neighbor directly behind us wasn't so lucky; they had two large pines on top of their house. And our next door neighbor had one uprooted in his back yard (that's the one that hit the transformer). All we've heard the past couple of days is chain saws :-) And it's been fun watching the tree surgeons take down the pines with the tops out :-) That's our week in review :-) Hope everyone has a safe and great weekend !!! Regards, Nancy E Parr
