    2. Do the rest of you find this term 'hard to hear'? "Illegitimate" I do. I typed it earlier in a 'legal' sense. I know it was a legal term, but it sounds somehow ugly when talking about another human being. Maybe I'm just a sentimental fool. <grins> How do y'all note the births of those who were born outside of marriage in your genealogy? ~~~~~~~~~ Sharon My G-grandfather was born to a woman that wasn't married. I grew up with my mother calling him a bastard. I like illegitimate better than bastard!! I realize bastard has a literal meaning, instead of only a curse word, but still, I find it insulting. It certainly isn't the child's fault for being born to an unmarried mother...... But to answer your question, when using my FTM software, I enter the names of both parents (if both are known), and in the marriage location area, I type in "Not Married". Sherry
