Good Question, I too would love to see these old records that are shown as a source for this belief.................I don't argue, just have a "need to see for myself attitude" is all after all the years I have spent working on this now. I have learned over the years the hard way to check out "everything"........................so many don't show any documentation at all not even one documented source. I have no problem showing mine or suppling mine. I am working my little fingers to the bones doing input data on a daily basic on my own trees and work. A LOT of it I have in paper form, just not input into my system as yet. I mean a source can by anything at all: Old Cemetery records from a church Death Certs' Obits Birth records in any shape or form Bible records Toombstone photos Tax lists Wills Deeds Law Suits' marriage records Photos of the people in question. Ref. to a book listing the information as long as the book is Documented. And of course my favorite..............US Censuses {yes I know, they contain mistakes, but they also give up a lot of good data at times too} So much of genealogy went undocumented for so very long that I am finding now that a lot that was around say 100 years ago is now lost to us pehaps forever.......................... So in other words, this post is not meant to be hurtful in any way shape or form, I would just like to get a peek at what there is to see other than the Grave marker........................which I do have a copy of..................but it is not yet filed either so I have to dig it out again. But it's here somewhere??????? Ok found it again, It is a white military marker the white marble kind that the VA places for folks..............with the circle and cross at the top center Below it reads: John Lee North Carolina PVT Martin's Co. 2 NC REGT. Revolutionary War 1755 1840 Photo does not show a slab and if I recall correctly there was no slab to show, but the area has a marker around it........................ You know like boards were used to frame in the area and then cement was poured between the boards to form a square around the area..................or a very short wall so to speak like as in maybe 5" high. Then as it was found underneath trees' if is covered in leaves, we had to brush away leaves to take the shot of the toombstone! Does this sound like the same marker? Hi, Yes, that is the grave of John Lee RS that I saw. It has a flat DAR marker. Right next to his grave is the unmarked "space". I would love to KNOW who his father really is.
