Sewell, pallbearers Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001: Mrs. Oscie Lee McQuaig, 71 (12-10-2001) Pierce Co. native (Music Funeral Home, Waycross) Mrs. Oscie Lee Smith McQuaig, 71, died Monday morning (Dec. 10, 2001) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after a extended illness. She was a native of Pierce County but had lived in Ware County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late William Franklin Smith and Ella Smith Smith, and the widow of the late Rufus M. McQuaig, Sr. She was retired with Satilla Regional Medical Center and also worked at Baptist Village. She was a member of University Blvd Church of God. The survivors include three daughters; Jeannette Crawford (husband Larry), Dorothy Jean Strickland (husband Jessie) both of Waycross, Diane New Daniels (husband Herb) of Jacksonville FL, three sons; Rufus ''Junior'' McQuaig,Jr. (wife Dell), Charles David McQuaig (wife Susan), Everette McQuaig (wife Gennell) all of Waycross, two sisters; Myrtle Dyals, Minnie Lee Landrum both Alma, 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren. A service is planned for 2:00 pm Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2001) at University Blvd. Church of God. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Pierce County. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 o'clock Tuesday evening at Music Funeral Home. Nathan Greer and the Rev. Harold Mullaly officiating. Burial was in the Waters Cemetery. The pallbearers were Earl Ray, Tony Yeomans, J.R. Pittman, Ronie Spradley, Skip Milton and Justin McNeil. Murray, 70 (12-10-2001) Waycross native (Music Funeral Home, Waycross) Betty Jean Murray February 22, 1931 - December 10, 2001 Mrs. Betty J. Murray, 70, died Monday night (Dec. 10, 2001) at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL after an extended illness. She is a native and lifelong resident of Waycross. She is retired as a licensed practical nurse for Satilla Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church. She is the daughter of the late Edward Arthur Herrin and Pearly Mae Rhoden. She is the wife of the late Earl Murray. Survivors include a son, Earl Arthur Murray (wife Tammy) of Waycross; three grandchildren, Miranda Mercer (husband Wayne) of Blackshear, Amy Hackett (husband Chris) of Waycross, and Casey Murray of Waycross; two great grandchildren, Jordan Waters and Blaine Mercer both of Blackshear; uncle, L. J. She was a native of Ware County, daughter of the late John Wesley Rowell and Rita Bell White Rowell and the widow of the late Albert J. Turner. She had lived most of her life in Jacksonville, Fla. and had been making her home in Palatka, Fla. Since 1986 and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two daughters Betty Phillips and her husband Ray of Validia, Ga., Glenda Miley and her husband Raymond of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons Bobby J. Turner of Palatka, Fla., and Lamar Turner of Marianna, Fla.; two brothers Barney Rowell and his wife Dorothy of Blackshear, Ga. and Robert Rowell of Waycross, Ga.; one sister Eva Mae King of Waycross, Ga.; eight grandchildren Gary and Kenny Miley and Shawn Turner all of Jacksonville, Fla., Bobbie Jo Wilbanks and Clayton Tucker both of Palatka, Fla., Tracie Goforth of Cummings, Ga., James Phillips of Vadilia, Ga., and Shanna Rabion of Tallahassee, Fla.; eight great grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mr. Rudolph Sapp, 79 (12-12-2001) Blackshear native (Music Funeral Home, Waycross) Rudolph Sapp April 15, 1922 - December 12, 2001 Mr. Rudolph Sapp, 79, died Wednesday night (Dec. 12, 2001) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He is a native of Blackshear, but he has lived most of her life in Pierce and Ware County. He is retired from Scapa Dryer as a foreman. He is a member of Corinth Freewill Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army, the 104th infantry division, during the World War II. He is the son of the late Robert Wilson (Bob) Sapp and Mary Jane Vann Sapp. He is survived by his wife, Kate Smart Sapp of Waycross; daughter, Carol Chancey (husband Lavell) of Yulee, FL; son, Kenneth Sapp of Yulee, FL; brother, J. W. (Buck) Sapp of Miami, FL; six grandchildren, five great grandsons, and one great granddaughter. A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday (Dec. 14, 2001) at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. "Bill" Gentry, 82, (12-14-2001) McMinnville, Tenn. native (Miles-Odum Funeral Home, Waycross) Henry M. "Bill" Gentry, 82, died Friday morning (12-14-01) at the Satilla Regional Medical after a short illness. He was a native of McMinnville, Tennessee and the widower of the late Julia Belle Salter Gentry. He had lived most of his life in Waycross where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Booth Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Waycross Lions Club, Asst. Chaplain of Post # 10 American Legion, Chaplain of Post # 4382 Veteran of Foreign Wars. He had been a Georgia Licensed Funeral Director since August 14, 1950 and was a partner of the Gentry-Shepard-Inman Funeral Home for many years and was presently serving on the staff of the Miles-Odum Funeral Home. He was a veteran of World War Two where he served with the U. S. Navy. He is survived by three nieces Alex and Nell Hood both of Waycross, Ga., Ann Memory Bockdrukker of Charlottesville, Va.; one nephew William J. Stovall, Jr. of Newnan, Ga.; two great nephews William J. Stovall, 3rd of Atlanta, Ga, and Martin S. Stovall of Griffin, Ga. and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Members of the Booth Sunday School Class, Waycross Lions Club, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars are to serve as honorary pallbearers and they are requested to gather at the church at 1:30 PM. He is a native of Waycross, and he has lived most of his life in Waycross and Jacksonville. He was a shipfitter (welder) at the Jacksonville Shipyard. He was also a member of the Suwannee Chapel Church of God of Prophecy. He is the husband of the late Laurie Estelle Pittman. He is the son of the late Will and Martha Chancey Pittman. He is survived by a loving companion, Joyce Driggers of Jacksonville, FL; three daughters, Judy Pittman, Cendy Mackey, and Wendy Rivera of all Jacksonville, FL; a son, Adam Pittman of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Myrtice Leggett of Alma, and Willmae Meeks of Jacksonville, FL; and five grandchildren.
