Gail, I wish I knew more about my BYRDs to be able to share. According to the various census from North Florida, A Seaborn J. Byrd shows up in Holmes County, FL 1850, then next census he is in Walton Co, FL, then next one he is in Holmes again. On each of these it says he was born in Alabama. I don't know WHERE in Alabama! A cousin told me at a funeral once that our Byrds were from Southeast Alabama, he didn't know exactly where either. On the 1880 Census there is an S.J. Byrd in Madison County, FL....then by the next one, his widow is found in Jackson County, FL. I have some WHITEs also. One of my DRIVERs that went to Alabama married a Letty Ann White. I looked in my files and I have a Mary A. White born Coosa County, AL abt 1851 died Ovalo, Texas abt 1920. Don't know who she married. I got this information a long time ago from a WHITE researcher who said these WHITEs came from the Cherokee Nation East. I sure wish I'd kept better records back then! I don't even know if I made a record of his "then" email address. The oldest in this family of WHITEs is Thomas WHITE and wife Missouri BUFFINGTON I believe you may be on the right track in thinking that BYRD was somewhere a surname connected to your family. Many families did this. Glad your hubby Tony is okay. I've heard some real horror stories about those spiders. COTHRAN and various spellings is a name seen around this North Florida area too!
